Hi
As some of you may be aware I'm now Carless, but need to hire a Car to travel to a Wedding next Month. When I look at the options online, Most require a Credit Card ( which I obviously haven't got anymore)or a Major Debit Card (does a Co-op Cashminder Card qualify?) Has anyone been in a similar postion?

Hi, never hired a car myself but I'm sure one of our fellow posters will have and be along soon to offer some advice. x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Is your cashminder card a debit card?

Give it a try - if it's a debit card then it should be accepted.

If you have an Enterprise near you they accept visa debit cards, I have a co-op cashminder and hire cars 3/4 times a year as my own car isnt reliable.

Do they credit check you and do you have to leave a higher deposit as well?

No probs lol They don't do a credit check but you do have to leave a 200 deposit off the card, it doesnt have to be the one you pay on. They do put the 200 back into your account as soon as you take the car back. This amount has only just gone up but having looked at other car hire companies it is competitive, some charge as much as £600!
You can book on line, which is actually slighly cheaper than going direct. They also pick you up and drop you up from your home address.
Good luck

Hi,
Yes I have used enterprise when I was in my IVA and had no problem. I don't have a debit card but I had a pre paid mastercard. I ensured that I topped it up over the required amount including deposit then phoned my mastercard company up to asked them activate my card to allow hire....I had no problems whatsoever.
IVA finished Oct 2011, CC received 27 April 2012, No longer on Insolvency Register 01 May 2012. Jan 2013 - all Credit Files squeaky clean

Hi
I think Europcar work in a similar way, they charge your card £250 as a deposit, so should be the same if you use a debit or credit card.
Good luck and let us know how you get on
