As you say, it is unfortunately common on the Laguna, they are great cars, but the 1.9DCi engine has a very poor reputaiton reliability wise.

All the best with getting it sorted!
50 months down 22 to go!

Yes BP the miles on it are low,and its been serviced as per renaults guidelines so really shouldnt suffer such a catastrophoic failure.

I am going to call renault and vosa today and trading standards and see what happens but I have a feeling this is going to cost me.

Paul(skint)(contingency fund balance -£750 at least!!)

Glad to hear you and your son are ok and hope you get the payment break needed to fund the repairs...I would've been terrified in those circumstances and doubt I'd remember what to do but I've noted what you've written x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Crikey!! Paul, Thank god you're both alright and I hope you manage to get the payment break sorted very soon....I too would have been terrified if that had happened to me and would have really panicked, like when the accelerator on my old car kept sticking, and I nearly hit a bus[:0],that really shook me up....Wishing you all the best with getting things sorted..xx[:)]
IVA accepted 13/11/2008..17 payments down,55 to go..

The garage are looking at the car tomorrow and the mechanic is a friendly chap who has suggested a breakers yard for the replacement turbo(he knows money is tight). Should fing out tommorow how much its all likely to cost.
Fingers and toes crossed. I havent conatced my IP yet as I want an idea on the costings first rather than ask for a month break when I may need 2 or 3!!!

Happy days(coz I am alive).

Sorry PD, I've only just caught up with this, so sorry to hear about your car. Bet you didn't make national traffic news like my stepdaughter though when hers caught fire!

Glad you were both ok and I hope you manage to get it sorted and that it doesn't cost the earth.

£1010 for a new turbo and if the engine is goosed then £350 for a scrap one and £350 to fit it along with a new timing belt etc!!!

£1700. Thats more than 3 months worth of trust deed payments so I shall have to see what my IP says.

Happy days are here again............

OMG PD! What terrible news.

Can you get a second opinion to see if you can bring the price down?

I'm still sat here in total shock at the price![:(]

I have phoned around lots of places to try and get the turbo cheaper but by the time you add fitting my guy is actually quite cheap(and isnt charging for cleaning out the intercooler etc etc).
The worst thing is not knowing if the car will be ok until the turbo is fitted, after that we should know what if any damage was caused to the engine!!
So I may lay out all that cash and find that the car needs scrapped!!!

Boo hiss!!!

I hope he can get it sorted.

We have had several Renaults in the past and loved them.

I hope you can get it sorted Paul and that the engine is ok.

I've never had a Renault but when I changed my car last year it came down to a Clio or a Fiesta.
