I'm currently not happy in my Job, we have got a new manager who is clearly rubbish at her job and thinks she is talking to children when she speak to her employee's, we have tried to sort this out with HR and nothing seems to get done, My only option now is to find another job.

I am just wondering how easy will this will be? I dont mean me getting a job but i mean my IVA side of things, I wont be taking a wage drop, if anything the wage will be more, so i can pay more into my IVA, but will i have to tell them i'm in an IVA when i go for interview or will they do any checks on me??

Im pretty sure you dont have to declare an IVA when applying for a new job and you wont have a problem getting a new job because of your IVA. One of the benefits of IVA is you can still work in certain professions you cant if you went BR. But keep your IP informed of any changes and do make sure that you get a job that pays at least the same so you wont struggle with repayments.

Hi Saz,

It shouldn't be a problem but I would continually update your I.P about the situation.

Unless in the interview it is blatantly asked whether you are in an IVA I don’t think you would have to tell them. However if you are going for a job where they will run a credit check then its best to be upfront as they will find out anyway. Are you in an industry where you cannot go bankrupt like i:e Armed forces, accountant or working for a bank ??

Thanks for the added info Saz, just out of interest when you were going for your IVA did you happen to check with your HR department or on your contract that you weren't restricted to do so??

I only ask as you work in an accounts department.

Hi Saz

Don't forget what an IVA is!! It is a simple deal between you and your creditors to repay them. Nothing more complicated really - and something to hold your head up high about - you are actually repaying your creditors!

As the other experts have said, you are unlikely to be asked this question during a work interview, unless the job is heavily finance based or involves any form of security vetting.

Thanks Melanie, The work I do is in a finance department and we deal with millions of pounds a day, I told my IP what sort of work i do and she never said i should let my HR department know, This has worried me abit because what if they find out and sack me for not telling them and i cant get another job as this is the only line of work i have ever done and what i'm qualified in! [:(]

Hi saz

Just have a look at your contract of employment - it should be covered in there. I have several clients who work in the banking and finance industry and, whilst bankruptcy proceedings often cause problems, I have never heard of anyone being sacked for being in an IVA.

Yeh if the job is public sector and has a higher level of clearance than basic youw will have to tell them, but do not fear as long as you tell them about it it should be ok.

On the Security Clearance level forms they do state they will carry out a credit check. I hit all sorts of missed payments while my SC was being done and it had no impact at all.

With Developed Vetting they check everything, so I would let them know about it becasue they will find out.

The levels of public sector clearance are the following:

Basic - the lowest level

Security Clearance - You need htis if working as a contractor or for a contractor working for the government.

Counter Terrorism - This is a special one, Ihave this as well it jsut means you wokred in a counter terrorism role which i did once but not anymore.

Developed Vetting: this is the biggie they check every sngle thing about you, your finances your personal your family the lot. As long as you ahve been honest with the vetting people you should be fine. For instance if you get offered a chance to work on an IT project in Baghdad you have to have DV.
