Hi tcw and welcome to the forum

You would need to check with the FSA to see what their rules are. If you are thinking of becoming an Independent Financial Advisor, then I feel you will find this difficult if you are in an IVA, but this may not stop you from operating as an employee within the industry.

If you have an IVA;

You will not be able to become a directly authorised person (AP) with the FSA. So therefore will not be able to start your own brokerage,

You may be able to be employed as a mortgage advisor; it will depend on the firm that employs you as to whether they deem you as competent and whether they accept your reasons for the debt and the solution chosen.

You may be able to be become an appointed representative (AR) of another firm; again this would depend on your competence and reasons for debt being acceptable.
