Got my electric bill this morning, I owe £815 ... I don't think so.

I ring them and now they owe me £220 !!

At least my monthly bill will go down. But once I am in an IVA (fingers crossed for my creditors meeting of 14th December) they will cancel my account anyway !!

mine was cancelled and set back up again without my even realising! I only noticed when i checked my bill on-line and had been put back on the standard tariff-which i immediately changed back to my original one. Also i had 95.00 arrears on my gas which were wiped off when the iva started-so you may be in for a nice surprise!!!!mind you i didnt query it!!

Sorry-thought you owed them-get it out quick!!!!

It seems normal practice for BG to close down an account and re-open another, I'm glad you've sorted the big debit! X
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

I`m with British Gas. I`m four months into my IVA and haven`t YET had my dual fuel account closed. I got an email off them a few days ago, which I opened expecting to be informing me of account closure, but it was just telling me of the imminent price increases and letting me know that the tarrif I`m on finishes in June `11.
I guess come June I`ll be snookered...I`ll be on the standard tarrifs aswell as having the price increases.

I'm already on a standard tariff for both gas and electric, so can't see the sense in closing my account. I'll just have to wait and see.

Just had a letter this morning from Atlantic and gas prices are increasing 9.4% from 1st December !!!

Not fun when we have had a salary reduction at work and everything else is going up !

come off the standard tariffs - i have changed mine 3 times this year with British Gas.Also if you are in the early stages of proposing the iva i would recommend getting boiler and central heating insurance-mine comes out with my gas payment-my ip allowed this as a necessary expense as theres not a cat in hells chance of me being able to get them fixed or replaced.

We're on a fixed rate tariff with BG with another year to go. After that we'll look to change.

No fun at all mole...British Gas prices are increasing 7% for gas and 9% for electricity from December 10th.
Like you my wage is being cut, as from June `11 in my case. Salary cuts are becoming more prevelant, as fuel and food prices go throught the roof. I think creditors are going to have to be flexible in the coming years if many peoples IVA`s are to succeed.

maybe fixed rates are a good option with the price hikes coming up

I agree goosed not good at all. I suspect getting my money back isn't going to be easy either.

Update: Just spoken to British Gas again and refund should be put through on Monday. Since I will receive the payment before having an IVA approved will I still need to hand it over? I will ring my IVA company on Monday to clarify, just wondered if anyone had any ideas.
