i've been trying to set up a seperate bank account so i can put the money in for car tax etc. i applied by phone yesterday but had to stop due to a system failure!

phoned back today and they said that as of yesterday they can no longer offer accounts to people in an iva if they already have an account with another bank and the man said that all people who have more than one account will be checked.

hope he got this wrong

Hi
With Nationwide earlier this month apparently changing their stance regarding IVA customers it,s a little concerning that Natwest seem to be following the same path.
Who,s next ?

Hi Andy

I am sure that someone posted recently that they had contacted Nationwide and they had confirmed that they definately DO have an account open to those in an IVA.

Do you think you can find that thread?!!

HI

It was me who contacted Nationwide.I rang my local branch last week regarding basic bank accounts for undischarged bankrupts. The reply i got was that they do accept undischarged bankrupts and people who are in IVA's.

Hi
The post was from RedDevil

Hi All,

Just in passing I have checked Nationwide's website and their Basic account is not avilable to people in BR and IVA.

Regards

RedDevil

Nationwide have two "basic"accounts, just to confuse us all,and it may be the one that is credit scored that does not accept IVAs.

Do you think this is the conflicting account which seems to be available through the branch directly but not over the internet?!!!

Thanks Jue

Nationwide seem to offer 2 different versions of their flex account, one which is available through the branch and obtainable to bankrupts and those in an IVA and one that is apllied for over the interenet which is not available to the above.

I recently opened a Basic account in joint names and had no problems with Nationwide.

I have noticed on normal banking business NatWest are being difficult about lending generally. This is experienced with all banks from time to time given how things are looking for them internally!

I'm a bit concerned now... I opened a Nationwise account and advised that I would be going Bankrupt but because I hadn't been made BR at the time of opening they offered me the basic account which I believe was credit scored. I hadn't missed payments at the time and so got through and was then offered credit cardsm, overdraft facility and a loan, all of which I declined though.

I'm now looking to make offers to settle my debts with my creditors and whether this is successful or whether I face bankruptcy I don't want them to then close my account? I don't owe them a penny and have a debit card and am extremely happy with them - have had the account for about 6 weeks now - would they then decide to close it do you think? I'm not strictly going to be in an IVA but the lump sum offers are a similar scenario I guess?

I wouldn't worry too much about this for the time being Simon. I suspect that you will be able to keep this account.
