Been reading the forums for a while now, its been a great help. I got a date through for my creditors meeting and wondered if it's best to attend or not?.

Melanie is dealing with the IVA for me (many thanks for all her help) and her offices are a very long way from me & would mean taking a day off work.

I know I dont "have" to attend but is it normal not to?

Thanks all.

I know Mel does like to meet her clients if possible and sometimes she can come to you but it's not imperative unless you are self employed.

Hi bepto. Really no need at all for you to attend your creditors meeting unless your case is particularly complex or you are self employed. You should make sure you can be contacted by phone on the day, but other than that it really would not be worth the time and cost to make the journey.

What date is your meeting bepto?

Everything will done by phone or fax so no worries there. I was at work when I posted earlier so apologies for not reading the post properly.

You don't have to attend, I don't know of anyone who has.

Hi Bepto. If you did attend your meeting there is a very good chance it will be you and your Supervisor staring at each other over the fax machine!!! Most creditors vote my mail or fax these days (although I did note, in my proposal, there is a provision for them to draw the fees for room hire !!).
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.

A lot of the time the results are in before the meeting. The only reason you are not told beforehand is that the creditors are able to change their minds.

Never heard of any that do that though.

Much as I would love to see you - I really do enjoy meeting as many of our clients as possible - it would be a bit of a waste of your time and money. Perhaps we will get to meet up at one of the Frugal Friends gatherings we are planning to have around the country next year.

Thanks everyone. Meeting is on 20th Sept (wish me luck) Looks like I will be waiting by the phone then. I work nights so will be avialable to take calls during the day.

Melanie, do you need me to contact the office to confirm I won't be attending?

Paul.

Good luck bepto. I am sure it will be fine.
