I bit the bullet last week after getting fed up with my PAYG phone charging me for internet even though I was on the Dolphin package which gives 250Mb internet for an Iphone each month and it was the begining of my month. I have contacted Orange numerous times and got credited etc but had just had enough last week. I had topped up £30 last month and it was still telling me I only had 0.78p left!
So I contacted T Mobile for a monthly contract as people have suggested on here, I passed the credit and ID checks (dont know how, well the Identity I do I am who I am) and was getting sent me a brand new Iphone4 on a the monthly package. I was excited all weekend looking forward to playing with my new toy today.
It arrived this morning, I took it out of the box and tried to fit the sim that came with it to find it needs a micro sim and they had sent a standard one. If I go into the shop to get one I will get charged for it which in principle I wont do, why should I pay for their mess up. OR I can wait and get one sent to me for free but I have to wait until Wednesday or Thursday. I have decided to wait as I haven't got time to go into the shop as I start work before it opens and trying to get into central Bristol in the evening is not easy but it is irritating the hell out of me, I have a lovely looking phone that is about as much use as a chocolate teapot at the moment.
Sorry just wanted to rant. It is so long since I had a nice new phone and when I get one and cant use it, it hurts.

You can, carefully, cut a standard SIM down. If the one they have given you is of no use at the minute - have you got anything to lose?

Google it, there are templates / guides etc.

Peejayel,

As said by Orange78 cut your sim down to size, it does seem like vandalism but it works, it'l save you a trip.

Regards David.

Will try it later when I get courage to attack it with a pair of scissors LOL. Not sure I have a steady enough hand though you are cutting very near the contacts LOL

12 months to go: Yes I did apply online and they phoned me immediatly to do an identy check through experian, I explained about my IVA and he just said it was an ID check only and he asked me about 5 financial questions, who I banked with , a loan taken out in 2007 etc. He even offered to help with the answers if I couldn't remember it was mutiple choice questions, afterwards he said I had actually been approved for 2 phones so my credit rating was better than I thought (his words not mine). I ony did it on the off chance didn't really think I would pass it, but I had nothing to lose I was paying the same amount as the contract on PAYG.

Still no sim card in the post, although I am not sure if the post has been today or not as it can arrive anytime up until 3.30pm.

I decided I am not a couragous person and cannot get the courage to cut a sim to fit even though I can see it is not difficult. I know I would mess it up, I am that sort of person, give me something simple and I will always find a way to do it wrong.

On the basis of this thread (and others) I've given it a punt and applied for a new contract myself today.

I did it through a third party rather than direct with t-mobile as they have a redemption scheme and quidco vs. the larger quidco payment for the same phone / contract if bought direct. Plus, if successful, the handset will be sim-free.

Only went for a £26pcm contract to give myself the best chance. No phone callas yet. Wish me luck.

Thanks Harpic.

Well I just got a text message to call them back on a 10p a minute number. I tried saynoto0870 but with no luck. The guy put my details in again and it was accepted.

Whilst I was on the phone, I got an email saying that they would (eventually?) try to call me - maybe I should have waited - the call is going to cost me at least £1.60! [:(]

I think the problem was that I had a new debit card on Friday, so updated my PayPal details etc and the bank has seen a lot of small transactions and stopped it.

All done now but I don't think that I will see the phone tomorrow as it is a bit late in the day. I can wait until Thursday. [:D]

Now just need to remember to cancel technical assistance and insurance before it is too late.
