Best to just ignore them and tell them to go away! They can do nothing.
You should be allowed to use reasonable force to stop someone from entering or breaking into your property, if someone broke into my car, a slap around the face I would consider reasonable to protect my self and my property.

You can use reasonable force but a smack across the face would constitute assault and you could be locked up for that!

Reasonable force is removing them from your property - to the public footpath. You can't actually assault them.

The more's the pity!

Jan, what constitutes 'reasonable force'? It's such a loose term! To me, if someone what going through my car, reasonable force would be manhandling him off of my property and clobbering him with something if he refused.

In this case I presume the car door was unlocked, but if he had forced anything wouldn't it be criminal damage?

You can't clobber anyone if they are going through your car - you have to be afraid of being in immediate danger of being assaulted or it was in self defence.

If he forced the car door then yes, it would be criminal damage at the very least, or attempt theft from motor vehicle.

A supersoaker would be fine - I'd pay to watch a debt collector get his come uppance that way!

That would be one way the OP can cancel next Friday's meeting! I appreciate these chaps have a job to do but this one crossed a line.

Good old Clint! We could do with him now!

They have crossed the line - that sort of behaviour is unacceptable but hopefully the OP will now realise that the debt collector can't do anything at all!

Perhaps they should phone the company to say that we're all going to be waiting for him with Super Soakers!!!!!!

the mental pictures this thread has given will keep me giggling for ages, [:D][:D]

I so want to be a fly on the wall of the person receiving the phone call to say we all have supersoakers at the ready and to send him along for the meeting if they dare...
