Firstly, check your credit record to make sure everything has dropped off, that's the best thing to start off with.
You may find it difficult to get mainstream lending at the moment. I don't think any of us on here know of any companies for loans.

I would have thought the bank that you use regularly! They (from previous experience) do their own style of checks when it comes to them offering you credit facilities.

Depends though on whether or not he completed after the five years or did a full and final earlier.
If that was the case then it may still be on his record.

My query is similiar to this - my IVA 6 years on credit file will be up in January 2013 - I did a F & F in 2009. Is it better to wait until then when the IVA comes off my credit file in order to get a new mortgage/remortage as I want to move house soon or will it make no difference to the mortage lenders or will they ask have I ever had an IVA in any event. I have never missed a mortgage payment throughout the IVA and debt problems. There is this sort of in between state where the IVA is still on the credit file but there has been a F and F. Is Mickd Drew in this half way house?
You are highly unlikely to be able to get a mortgage while your IVA is still on the records and even when it has dropped off you will need a hefty deposit.
Unless micktdrew comes back to us then we have no way of knowing where he is.
If you do a full and final then your IVA will remain on your record until six years are up.

Hi, almost imposible to get lending until IVA has drop off your record it seems. regardless if you, like me paid your IVA early. Nobody interseted you cannot trust the brokers. Not sure there are any lenders out there who will lend to people with less than perdect credit rating.
Hi, I dont want to sound like a damp squid, but it seems insurance companies and some financial institutions are now asking " have you ever been declared bankrupt or IVA"
I have just recently fallen foul with home insurance, the company I chose still insured me but it was a higher premium, and I know my son has been looking for a small loan of £2000 for a car, and most companies asked re bankruptcy/iva, so I am not holding my breath when my iva finishes, as it seems the financial institutions are finding different ways not to accept and that one questions hits you every time
Down but not yet beaten !

What really annoys me about all of this "have you ever been in an IVA" question to weed out borrowers is that the banks themselves have compounded with their creditors. If the country as a whole asked each bank the same question and withdrew their business ( if they could) on the strength of the answer the banks would appreciate how we felt.
Pot .... kettle .... black.

IVA Completed 23rd July 2013 .... C.C. 10th January 2014
Thanks for replies - I have an interest only mortage which I took out before I went into an IVA - never missed a payment - it has about 5 years to go - so my question was do I stick with it for another year and a half until the IVA comes off my credit record in January 2013 (My F & F was in July 2009) rather than try to move now and get a new mortgage/remortage Kallis you have said that I would need a large deposit to get a mortgage after the IVA has dropped off my credit record - is that because they will ask whether I have had an IVA? How would they know if we said no - if it had come off our credit record? I suspect it never really comes off and is on some permanent record somewhere. Drewmickey says you cannot trust the brokers - anyone tried a broker who can help?
