I am in the process of setting up and proposing an iva with a really good company. I have written and my company have written to all my creditors explaining my situation. So it really annoys me when I receive letters from creditors saying I have failed to make payment and notify them of what is happening, followed by a threat of if I fail to contact by a given date they will take action. Now I feel like I have to ring them all and explain myself again. I really resent being treated like dirt, I have maintained communication throughout been nothing but upfront and honest and they still send me these threatening letters saying they haven't heard from me.

Sorry for my rant but needed to get it off my chest.

Rant away all you like, we don't mind!!

Unfortunately you will receive letters and phone calls from creditors and even if you phone them it will make no difference.

It's a cross we all have to bear whilst setting up an IVA!!

What makes it worse is that the people I live with do not know so I dread the phone ringing. It was like this 18months ago when I went down the dmp route. It's been fantastic not having letters and phone calls so going back to that now for the iva, although I know it's necessary, is awful!

It's not good at all - I hated it and ignored the calls and just wrote to the creditors when I got the nasty letters.

Perhaps you could phone the creditors and tell them to only phone you on your mobile - would mean that the other people wouldn't need to know about it.

and the letters and calls may continue for a short while post IVA acceptance. It won't take long just bear with it, ignore the calls and send the letters to your IP. If they call/write after acceptance take great pleasure in telling them you're in an IVA and they needn't ring again. x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

ruth its horrible getting the calls and the mail-that sinking feeling i can so relate to.

often these places have got so many sections that the lack of communication is unreal and when you speak to someone you think its sorted then another department call up and it becomes a vicious circle. !

if you find youre getting too much stress from this let your ip know and let them take care of the calls and letters.

im becoming imune to it but i too hated this stuff-and they always make the letters in bold or red scary writing-its all tactics to get you to cough up quick. this forum is my lifeline and helped me through the most bleakest times from oct '08 - jan '09 when i begun my iva. i still get the odd letter red castle finance grrr [}:)] but now i bin or shred it and ignore any stray calls. the thing to do though is hoild your head high. they will make you feel small and weak and like trash-so you succumb to giving in and giving them what they want MONEY. this is the time when youre most vunerable to this and they know it so will keep preying on your thoughts and fears which is why its really good for you to be on here when you can and let your forum buds get you through xx

theyre always here for me and for you too xxxx fd [:o)][:o)]

Hi Ruth, its been driving me demented too. I've spoken with those that have rung me and explained things over and over and still the letters come. As the other guys have said its all part and parcel of the process but it will be worth it if you get your iva approved. Take heart from the fact that others are going through the same cycle and that its not personal to you. As Flumpy says this forum is the best place to get you through a rough patch and before you know it your meeting date will be here.
I've just received my creditor meeting date so at least next time I get a call I will be able to give them that and that may stop them, but I wont hold my breath.[:)]

The morons in the call centres are only out for one thing - to boost their wages as they get commission for bullying people into paying. They will make all sorts of threats that they'll vote no for your IVA but these should be ignored as they mean absolutely nothing and the call centres can do nothing.

They're at the very bottom of the food chain - the gutter!!!

Speaking of call centre's I 've just had the Halifax on the phone. Gave them my date and she said she'll put it on record so I wont receive any more calls. Its mainly been Lloyds, Capital One and Halifax that have called me but the biggest creditor is MBNA who have not called or even sent a letter which I find really strange.

Mercers were a nightmare for me - thankfully we had taken out BT total broadband including the phone so got a new number and it was bliss!!! We had used to check the old number (you do keep that number as well) and it was always Mercers leaving a message which was instantly deleted.

I did really enjoy speaking to them on the date of IVA approval though.......they still tried to get me to make a payment to them.

Talking of Mercers ... whatever happened to our Barclaycard rep ?
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.

Mercers were ruthless with me too, but at the end of the day it's a person doing a job and possibly reading a script. Would I want that job NO! Would I do that job? If it meant food on the table or surviving through uni then I'd have to as luckily I've never been unemployed yet and would do almost anything so long as it was legal to stay in employment and I will expect daughter to as well to help her fund uni.

I'm fortunate in that I've never been unemployed either but, having been on the receiving end of those calls there is no way I could do it.

I'd go on the dole rather than work in one of those call centres.
