I always give a firm a couple of chances before deciding what I am going to do.

If it's a choice between paying and not paying, I'll do the free everytime.

I agree with Jan - the Co-op have very good reviews on here, and why pay for something when you can get it for free?

Morning All! Image
I have a Halifax Cash card account - had for 20 plus years - with the old visa electron on. Have to say on the whole not many probs apart from the Post office not taking it!!!!!!Image and the Body Shop - and a couple of others. I am just waiting to find it out now if they are freezing the account and cancelling it. Absolutely don't want them to do this - but if they do they do. i have just got one of those prepaid virgin cards (4.95 per month) for a back up system. I have a co-op super saver card with hole in the wall but waiting to see if that is frozen also and cancelled. I did try and apply for a Nationwide card before going BR but their whole application process on line was so up in the air. I applied and then heard absolutely nothing. So tried to call them - but was told the new applications department had decided not to 'turn in' and that it looked like it would be a few days before they did! So gave up. I mostly worried about my direct debits - the things that have to go by dd. i know I can revert to the post office for tv licence, phone bill etc. But stuff like insurance has to be dd. I have heard several folk on here discussing Think Bank. I have not heard of them before so will go and check them out too.

Hope you are all swell ImageI am a froggy today cos my boy recons I look like one!!!! Ah ha ha ha.

Poppy, don't be surprised if the Halifax close your account as they are not BR friendly as fas as I know. Why not try the Co-op Cashminder account? In my opinion it's a better account than Think, (which I think is over priced and has rubbish customer service) and they are very BR friendly, including offering an account even if they were one of your creditors.

If it wasn't for the hassle in changing everything over yet again, I'd change to the Co-op tomorrow.

No way would I pay for an account unless I had to.

Yorkshire Bank are supposed to be very good as well.

Yorkshire Bank are very good Jan - they advertise here as having accounts for anyone and everyone - they are in competition with the Co-Op.

I tried to open an account with Yorkshire Bank when I was BR and they told me they didn't offer accounts to undischarged bankrupts. They told me that once I was discharged they may open an account, but I would need to go into a branch to do it - the nearest branches are nearly 20 miles away!

I don't know about B/R Skippy but the branch here will take IVA people and if the account is well conducted for 12 months will upgrade with no problem with no OD facility. Perhaps Yorkshire run an "old fashioned" type of banking where the manager can exercise his discretion.

I doubt it - I don't think any banks do that these days!

Personally I think that all banks (obviously unless they are a creditor) should be made to offer a basic account to people whether they are insolvent or not.

Totally agree Skippy - if Mandleson gets his way I think the proposed Post Office (peoples bank) is supposed to do just that. The attitude of banks seems to be that IVA and B/R people are dishonest which is total rubbish.
