I was just wondering if anyone has previously had an American Express Card in an iva and then been able to reapply and be successful for another one after a successful completion? I appreciate any comments.
Some posters have successfully applied for cards they had with former creditors, when the time was right.
Hopefully someone will be along with pertinent experience.
Whichever cards you go for it is essential to make sure your credit files with all three CRS's are as healthy as you can make them, otherwise you might fall at the first hurdle.
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.
IVA Completed 23rd July 2013 .... C.C. 10th January 2014
You can also do a soft search will not impact on your credit rating - lots of companies do them and you can find out whether or not you are likely to be accepted.

Yes, finished my IVA in 2006 with Amex as a creditor and have recently been accepted for their Gold card
Funny old game isn't it !!
Guess the longer you leave it the more chance you have
Everything is back to normal now Thankfully and I dont currently have any issues getting new cards (althouhg Lloyds wont upgrade my current account as I was with them previously (fyi).
They recently told me that because I was with them and defaulted I will never be allowed a normal current account!. I do uderstand this but its a shame as I liked my previous account with them.
I thought perhaps maybe Amex might be more strict than everyone else. - Do you know of any issues with anybody else? would like to apply for an Amex Perhaps next year!

Thanks Kallis3, I know I can do a soft search its just that I previously had an Amex and defaulted so although a soft search will be done,
its still no guarantee of my application being accepted so dont really want to take a risk unless I know of other people having been in the same position with Amex and reapplying to be successful.

Hi Neverending,
Thank you for letting me know this.. Is it the Gold Credit card or charge card which you applied for? and was it referred or anything? or did you try the elegibilty checker before applying? if so what were your chances?...
Im obviously a little nervous of applying at the moment. I completed my iva in 2012 and have had cards since but and had no problems so far (touch wood!)

It is the charge card, was turned down several years ago but tried again in May of this year, accepted within a couple of days.
My gut feeling is that you may be a little too early to try, i have built my credit rating up slowly but surely over the last ten years, for me getting the gold Amex is the cherry on the top in terms of rebuilding credit rating
sorry... I've not been on here for a while and was just wondering if I had any replies and yes, I see you kindly did!. Hopefully I will be able to get one too at some point.. I have read a lot about people saying that once you default with ANY Amex, you will NEVER get another one..The problem for me is that I had THREE cards!! so maybe it wont happen for me!. I hope you don't mind me asking but when you were declined, had it been a long while after you iva had completed? (mine finished in 2012). and did they write to you explaining why?.. I'm just curious to know so I'm prepared if this is the case? Many Thanks.
Hi There,
I asked the question some time ago but was just wondering if anyone since that time (who had Amex has a creditor) and then re applied for a card who was previously in an IVA has been fortunate to be accepted?.
