I just go through sainsburys and tesco websites and see who has what I want for the least price. I dont think sainsburys is expensive if you shop carfully. I buy what I need and stock up if a regular is on offer. I shop online if a big shop but if a frugal week I print the list off and go to the shop. The only problem with some of the others Aldi etc is by the time I have driven to them the cost of diesel removes the savings.
Sainsburys have a lot of offers at the mo a lot of fruit and veg is half price, nectarines, courgettes, red onions, baking pots, celery to name a few.
Ang I like shape yoghurts but I dont think sains have them and asda is too far, or I would have a fridge full too. Sains has mullerlight half price so I have a fridge full of them.
Washing powder I would buy any old one even the 50p sainsburys but get told off by steve as he thinks it ruins the machine so I buy the cheapest capsules and put them in a bold box when he isnt looking.
I am done for if he reads this !!

Ang xx

Hi All

I know how you feel, we are entering a DMP and money is tight, on the issue of soappowder I have to use one that does not irritate my skin and i have for a while used Surcare. it is probably cheaper than Fairy and does not make me itch.

Cheers

just reading the post on switching the washing powder into branded boxes. my kids would only have heinz tomato sauce and h.p. brown sauce, since my iva was proposed i have been filling the old branded bottles up with aldis own at 1/3 of price and nobody has noticed not even the older one who is a food snob. i have to giggle to myself every time she uses it, though i have to be carefull filling the bottles as it isnt easy and i have to make sure i dont get caught.
Iva finished !

I shop at Aldi and Tesco now (value brands in Tesco)!!!! We also get our meat and fish from co-op on a sunday morning heavily discounted and then we freeze it. I just wont compromise on nappies, washing powder or baked beans!

I love living like this, cant believe it took me 36 years.

Country has gone mad though. Saw some brown rice in Tesco (Tilda) and it was £6.55!!!!!! Nearly fell over.

Luckily I get to travel with my job and buy all my toothpaste in South Africa (20p for a large colgate).
I now buy all my cleaning products in the £1 shop. Most are branded or by a brand called Astonish and all do a great job. Have cut that bill in half!

P.S. Hello everyone who I have not chatted to for a while. On the BR site most days and have now completed my SOA forms. 5 weeks til BR!

Hey ladies - has anyone else tried the £1.79 moisturiser from Aldi? Its fab - and I'm usually an Olay fan (£16.99 a time - that will have to stop). They also do a night cream same price.

Drowningmummy. You're right I also quite enjoy living like this most of the time! It's taken me nearly 44 years.I don't have as much time as I'd like to shop around but if you don't get everything from one place there are definately bargins to be had! My friend is a make up freak and swears by Aldi products.I usually use No7 serum but wait till it's 3 for 2.Aldi version is on my shopping list now x

just been asda yesterday and noticed that herbal essence is 3 for £4.. why would you buy 3.. you buy in even numbers or you would end up with either 2 shampoos or 2 conditioners and one of the other, is this a cunning ploy to buy double??
Ang.. 13 payments in.. WOW, thats over 20% paid!! http://angela18.blogs.iva.co.uk/ well here we go

Ang we always use more shampoo than conditioner in this house, so that would suit me. I'd have two shampoos and one conditioner.

Aldi's cosmetics i.e the day and night cream won some poll when Gok featured it on his How to look good naked! I'm going to give it a go.

Many years ago, before I got into debt (so to speak!!) I used to work for a large soap powder manufacturer and can assure you that the difference between the brands that they produced, 5 or 6 famous names, is very very little. It would cost far too much to have separate production facilities for them all so you would have a run of producing one brand, then another brand would follow with all the same ingredients, in roughly the same proportion, but with perhaps, say, some blue brightener instead of yellow.

I also worked for a while at the makers of a famous gravy, and the same product was packaged in different boxes. One was the famous brand for which you pay more, the other was sent as an own brand value product. It was exactly the same but again it would have cost too much to set up a new line, or to keep closing and cleaning down the line that they had.

Regards.

I've called into Aldi and bought their £1.89 day cream on my way to work and some of my colleagues have put it on to test it before going to buy theirs. I've already got my war paint on so can't try it yet.

Size 5, I worked for a while in a ready meals factory and the ready meals were produced for several large supermarkets, upon the end of the run for one, you carried on with the next changing the outer packaging and sometimes the container due to weight but the product was the same.

Folks, a question - how much do you spend per person on groceries and toiletries per week. We have been allocated £20 per person (4 peeps) and having a lactose intollerant, diabetic and ceolliac in the family it it killing me. I now only have one meal a day so that I can feed the others their 3.
Sunshine at last - it is all over!!!

That is dreadful Sharon. You should be telling your IP exactly what you spend and that should be allowed. You cannot let this affect your health. The CCCS guidelines for a family of four state a maximum of £445 per month for two adults and two children - so that equates to £26 per week, but if you have grounds for more you should say so.
