I am looking to move house really soon, shortly after xmas probably through a letting agent.
Now my scenarios is: All my defaults and IVA info is off all 3 credit agencies. Everything is nice and green. I have a little information on there. I have a Vanquis card, pre paid card credit builder on all 3 and Equifax and Call Credit have moneybarn car lease going back to 2009 (all green). Without a paying rent I would have a disposal income of £2000+. If a credit check is done by a letting agency would I pass? AS anyone been in this situation?

Hi, I've rented throughout my IVA and never had a problem with the credit check. I was always upfront and told them about the IVA the only thing that might happen is you need a guarantor but as yet it's never happened to me
Thanks for this but I don't see why I should even declare the IVA now as it is no longer visible and there are no defaults. Obviously if I ever got a question 'have you ever' I would answer truthfully. tj40 I am assuming you were in your IVA at the time ie your IVA/defaults were visible? I have also got a 10 year squeaky clean record at my current letting agency...I have never not paid my rent on time. Guarantor is out the question as no one knows about my IVA. Even now I am now out of an IVA (6 years + since IVA start) it is still a bit stressful. I really dont want to go for a house to be turned down then have to try and explain it to friends.

Hi! I declared the fact that I had been in an IVA but now all completed! The letting agent was very nice and said would I be prepared to pay 2 months rent in advance which I agreed! Having agreed though I felt a little miffed as we are more financially stable than ever before! Anyway all credit checks came back fine and we were not asked for 2 months rent after all!! ) good luck I'm sure you will be fine!
Hi cheers Muggins, that gives me hope . I can't stay with the same letting agency unfortunately as I am moving to a completely new area miles away. I am not going to mention my IVA. At the end of the day unless you are specifically asked then you have not done anything wrong by not mentioning it and like you my credit check might come back fine. If i was still in an IVA or it was still on my file I would mention it in advance as I know they would find out anyway. It makes me cross that we are treated as lepers when in fact we are probably in a far better financial position than the majority of those who haven't been through an IVA and are less likely to make the same mistake again. My next mither is getting a current bank account upgrade. I am with Santander but only have a basic account. They were not one of my creditors but I am scared stiff to ask in case they say no and it goes on my file. Really would love a debit card and cheque book, not interested in an overdraft though.

Ladybird nice to know another is a clean as a whistle. Anyhow, the COOP cashminder does a basic, with debit card and dd facility. Ive used one for five years now and, apart from the fact you dont get interest on the balance (which is taxed as well), I have used it perfecly ok. Also, I think you'll find, not too many places take cheques anymore.
Completed IVA - August 2012 pheeeeeeeeeew
Only my opinion - Nothing More Nothing Less
You are correct The Artist -- cheques are a dying breed. The only time I need one is for school photographs and the like .... don't think many retail outlets accept them.
I, too, use a Co-Op cashminder and will probably keep it once I am out the other end (assuming I get there!). It does everything I need.
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.
IVA Completed 23rd July 2013 .... C.C. 10th January 2014
I think I might chance my luck with Santander. I have been with them 6 years now with a Basic. I dont want to apply on line, I am thinking of going into a branch and being upfront and asking if i would get approved. I notice the on line upgrade does ask the dreaded question 'have you ever' they were not a creditor but I don't know if they are linked to any other banks who might have been? My creditors were: Lloyds tsb for banking and loans, RSB credit card (CC), Mint CC, MBNA CC, Capital One CC, Goldfish CC, Barclaycard. I earn £46K and now have a large disposal. I am sure i saw a post from someone on here a while ago saying they got an upgrade when they went into a branch.
