Hiya folks! Longtime lurker coming out of lurkdom here....[:D]

On another forum I'm on, we're having a competition to see who can empty all their kitchen cupboards of food first, but eating sensibly...

Basically, the story is that we're trying to save money by using up ALL the stuff we have in our cupboards before buying anything more at the supermarket.

What you do, is list the things you have in your cupboard and freezer, and how many you need to cook for, and then forum members suggest EDDIBLE recipies using your ingredients. E.g. in my kitchen cupboards, I have 4 tins of baked beans, 2 tins of tuna, porridge oats, various types of pasta, some cheese, 3 eggs...

In my freezer I've got frozen brocolli, frozen peppers, a steak, etc...

And how on earth I'm going to explain my eating habits to Melanie when I see her on Wednesday to talk through my IVA proposal, I have no idea!!

What we need to do is stop smoking, drinking, eating things that are bad for us but taste really nice, stop sunbathing etc.

Good luck with the diet Melanie! I'm joining Weightwatchers tonight and hoping to lose over 2 stones by the time I go on holiday in July.

Robbiecat, I'm afraid I can't contribute any recipes as I don't cook - that's Dave's job, unless it's chilli con carne or fishfingers!

Thats a great idea and did start trying to empty my cupboards after Christmas to start the year afresh but then in January my Dad had a heart attack so my mum cleared our her cupborad and freezer of all the things that he wouldn't be allowed and just when I was thinking the freezer was getting somewhere (ie there was a gap) my sister decides to shack up with her boyf so brings round the entire contents of her freezer, fridge and cooking ingredients. just about crammed it in (cooking ingredients still on the worktop as no space) so I get a sneaky suspicion that if I did join in with thew competitiion I would lose majorly!!!

Still macaroni cheese made with all the left bits of cheese from Chrimbo is pretty good!

Still can'tt compnain either as I haven't had to do a food shop for weeks!!! What a result to the bank balance - actually i brought some well deserved clothes!!

Which is the whole point of the exercise, Louisa! [:D]

Personally, I try to save money by the pet food diet...

I was in Tescos stocking up on Cat and Dog food and they had an offer, so I had lots of Butchers dog food and Whiskas in my trolley. The woman behind me in the queue mentioned that I must have a lot of dogs (I don't, I have a very fat Border Collie!) and lots of cats (I do, 5) and then she informed me that she didn't agree with pets. Well, I just had to rise to the comment... I informed her that I didn't actually have any pets, I was on the "pet food" diet, and I'd lost over 40lbs. (£40 paying for it, more like...). By this time several people in the queue were listening...

She asked if I had any problems with eating pet food. I said "no", but I had to resist the urge to sniff peoples bottoms, chase cars and I had a real problem with fleas.

It amused me and the Tescos girl who was desperately trying not to laugh.

Excellent Robbiecat! I couldn't have said that and kept a straight face! The worrying thing is that someone will probably decide that's the next miracle diet!
