Many years ago, when the "Elvis is alive" rumours were at their peak a rumour spread that he was working as a petrol pump attendant at a petrol station on the East Lancs Road. (this was in the days when you didn't have to fill your own petrol tank). The owner was so fed up with curious visitors seeking Elvis but not buying any petrol that he wrote an irate letter to the Manchester Evening News stating categorically that Elvis did not and never had worked at his filling station but that Glen Miller was doing a great job in the car-wash!!!
