For me the debt I was in was due to my ex boyfriend! He was not a nice person and used my credit cards whilst I was asleep to purchase things! He hid my mail so I had no idea that the items he was buying were actually paid for by me!!! Once I decided to end the relationship it was only then that I found out the true extent of what he had done! £20,000 worth! we had a joint account and ever so kindly dealt with it and was not allowed a cash card! he would give me money when I wanted some! Went to see a solicitor about it and unless I wanted to take him to court for fraud (which would have taken ages to prove and cost loads) I would have to pay it back myself.. Was doing OK for 2 years as I got promoted and had a £10k pay rise but when the banks collapsed my job went too! You live and learn hey???

Now I can concentrate on celebrating my 30th in a hot country with the man I am going to spend the rest of my life with! (Even though he asked if we could have kids yesterday) aarrgggh!!

It's mad how different people's situations can be, I mean look at the dramas you've had prior to your IVA Liz, not to mention the fair few you've had during!!!

I've been very lucky to be honest, no redundancy, no major appliances breaking, with the only major change being me moving 700 miles across Europe, but even that was pretty easy thanks to the relocation package that i was given.

I definitely agree though that a lot of people seem to think an IVA is an easy way out, to be used to escape debt, when the reality is so very different. It can be REALLY tough at times.

The earlier you deal with the problem, the earlier it's fixed though. That's got to be a good thing. Can you imagine 10/20+ years of your life being affected due to debt..

It's NEVER going to happen to me again....
