if you have a together mortage with northern rock .and sell your house and rent would you be able to take this unsecured loan with you or would you have to pay it off

No pnn - the unsecured element would stay with you and you would need to take steps to repay the remaining debt.

It is only the secured part of the together mortgage that has a charge on the property so this will be paid with the funds from the house sale leaving the unsecured part as a seperate debt.
