Just wondering something, we are in the process of trying to set up an IVA the proposals are being drawn up this week.
Obviously the creditors do not allow for keeping mobile phones and sky tv, but will we be allowed to keep this if it is paid for from funds allowed from another category ie clothing? and if yes is it still ok to have the direct debits taken from my new bank account without the risk of the creditors questioning the Direct debits on the reviews etc...
Thanks
James

Can't answer about Sky but I've always paid for my phone out of whichever budget had money available without any problems with my IVA company.

I don't know about Sky, but I think you will be allowed to keep your mobile phone providing the service provider isn't one of your creditors and the monthly cost is reasonable.

Hi James, I think its OK but I'm not an expert - I think I have seen where Melanie has said that if you make savings then you can spend it on what you like.

We were allowed to keep sky, broadband and mobile phones (pay and go)
Apart from mobile phones, the others come out of the bank via firect debit.
Hope this helps.

Hi James,
You will definitley be allowed a mobile phone provision, however this must be a reasonable amount. Usually £30-35 per person seems to be classed as reasonable by creditors. Possibly more if you were a single person having your mobile as your only form of communication.
I would discuss the Sky provision with your I.P, you may have to reduce this amount to the lowest package. Sky can become abit of an issue as creditors could view that the client could get a freeview box for cheaper.
Again call your I.P and discuss this to see if you can keep it.

Agreed, we had to only have the low package with sky

I have the basic Sky package, I would prefer a 'freeview' box but unfortunately I live in an area where this is not available, without Sky I would only have 4 channels available, not very good when you can't afford to go out, so a reasonable selection of television programmes is a must.
Fortunately my I.P. doesn't have a problem with Sky. [:D][:D]

We were lucky in that we were allowed to keep internet (for on line banking) Mobile phone (for work reasons)and Basic Sky package (for sanity[:D])
None of the above were expensive and my IP agreed they were justified.
Good luck

James we too were allowed our virgin package which covers all three, phone broadband and telly. Mobiles too, as we work at night so needed in case of emergency, myself as travelling alone to work in the dark and hubby is a lorry driver and also needs his. Also, with this switchover to digital, wont we all need some form of package or we wont get telly at all then so they would have to allow at least the basic package.

Hi James
Put the figures down and see what your IP has to say about it.Obviously you can't have the all singing and dancing packages but you may get away with a basic one.
To answer your question, yes you can pay it out of other allowances if you so wish and the DD on your bank statements will not be relevant

I got to keep my mobile, landline and internet, I am allowed 50.00 per month for these.
15.00 mobile
15.00 internet
20.00 Landline
I have a freeview box for sky.
Can I just ask a question, I have a local government pension, this is clearly shown on my payslip, this takes up 6% of my pay. I was afraid I may need to freeze this for the term of the IVA but this has not been the case, is this usual or are pensions a bit of a lottery?

Hi
A lottery.
Some IP's automatically exclude it from your IVA and then wait to see if the creditors insist on contributions being cancelled whilst you pay into your IVA.
