I cant believe it. If waiting for the annual review to come back isnt stressful enough I loged on to my bank this morning only to find someone has emptied it out. On contacting the bank I was told that my card has been used to shop online for 451 euros of clothes. Cant do anything untill the funds have fully cleared my acount which will be on Thursday so we just have to sit and hope that the funds will magic back. The shopper did this last Wednesday so my direct debits have not been paid which includes my IVA. I rang the IVA company and was able to pay over the phone with money my daughter has let me borrow until this mess is cleared up.Just hope tomorrow brings a better day and that my IVA annual review is ok

That's awful Carole, I hope your bank can help you sort this out.

Good luck with your annual review, I'm sure you won't need it though x

Aw Carole hope you get sorted soon. I just had my card cloned last week but luckily my bank caught it before they could take money out. However another friend I know also had 300 taken out last week! On speaking to bank it seems that they have had over 50 cases alone this week so seems to be rife at the moment!

Hope you get sorted and hopefully the bank should support you by ensuring you don't get any missed DD charges etc as this was clearly not your fault.

I had my card cloned a couple of years ago and my wife had hers cloned last year. Both credit cards were issued by the same bank and when she rang on the Friday evening to put a stop on the card she was advised to 'ring back Monday, as the fraud team does not work weekends'!!! Maybe the fraudsters only operate 9-5 Monday to Friday too.

She got her money back as did I but we have never heard a thing since. It is irritating that the banks just pay up and keep these things quiet and do not alert you to how your details may have been compromised.

There is clearly a lot of this type of fraud but it is being kept hidden. I feel really sorry for you Carole and hope the bank sorts it out quickly.

It's always worth reporting it to the police as well. I did that last time.

Another thing to consider is taking out a subscription to CIFAS. Carries an annual fee but I don't think it's a lot and means that it is harder for people to try and steal your identity. I did it for 12 months a few years ago.

Have a look at this link:

My husband's Lloyds credit card got ripped off for over £14k a year or so ago - but they tied this down to a dishonest employee at Amazon who was subsequently dismissed and convicted. It took nearly six months for the money to be refunded.

That wasn't good Mel.

Have to say that my money was put back on the card straightaway. That was Lloyds as well.

Not sure Helen - we never got to find that out, but I gather hubby was not the only victim.

I had my money taken from my account on Amazon as well last December, I know exactly when as they took the money I had saved for my hubby's birthday present. To be fair to Amazon they did email me straight away and tell me they thought someone had used my details to obtain goods and they credited it back unfortunatly it took 2 weeks to credit during which it was hubby's birthday. The other annoyance with it was that they paid for the goods originally in dollars and with the exchange rate when I got the credit back it was for a little less (67p) than was taken from my account.

My first post on here, so be gentle with me :-) I have a pre pay Mastercard that I use for on-line payments. It only ever has the amount credited to it that I put on it, if a dishonest person/retailer chose to clone it they can not use the ID of it to empty my bank account or buy hundreds of pounds worth of goods as it never has that much credited to it.
