I contacted a DM firm in December, started paying them in February (£200 a month). They then referred me to an IP who has been dealing with my proposal since mid February. I am still getting letters and calls from the creditors saying that they have had no contact from the IP. Basically I have paid £800 so far for what appears to be draft letters that haven't been sent to the creditors. Now am i am gettng letters saying that the baliffs are coming. I was stressed enough to want the IVA, now it seems it's going nowhere and I am no better off than if I simply stopped trying to pay the monthly bills.
I have signed the letter of authority in March, provided them with ID and up to date financial info, and last month I signed the proposal.
Am I being impatient because I am worried and all of this is normal or am I being led up the garden path?
I have contacted them for an update but some advice/reassurance from people who have been through this already would be great.

Hi VJ and welcome to the Forum.
This does seem like a long time for a proposal to be drafted. If there is no reason why the IP is taking so long it may be worth speaking to the DMP company who referred you. You could speak to another IP firm if you wanted but this would probably mean starting over again and the loss of any money paid to date.

As Michael mentioned it may be worth while contacting another IP but this could well result in a loss of money.

There are IPs who do not charge any fees until the IVA has been accepted.

Hi VJ and welcome to the forum.

Which company are you using?

Unless you have anything complicated it should take between 6 and 8 weeks to sort out an IVA.

I have a case on my desk that I have had the documents for since the end of February, it is a nightmare for all concerned, but this is very much the exception rather than the rule, as stated previously 6 to 8 weeks is much nearer the mark. If you signed the proposal last month then I would have thought that you would have at least been notified of a date of creditors meeting by now.

A call directly to your IP to see what is happening definitely seems in order.

Regards.
