This site is great - I only wish I found it last year - would definitely have approached Melanie & her team rather than the debt company I went to. Everyone seems so friendly and supportive and there's such good advice. One question, I recently received a letter from a company who said that they understood I have an IVA (how did they know this?) and that I might not have been offered the full picture, they asked me to contact them and they can renegotiate or withdraw me from the IVA (for a fee of course!). Doesn't this seem to you like another company trying to 'cash in' on people in debt. I don't want my IVA to fail (took long enough for it to come through) Surely it's irresponsible for them to suggest 'opting out' of an IVA? I thought that the letters and phone calls would stop once my IVA was in place - didn't realise it gave more companies an opportunity to contact me!

Hi Ali - if you are in an IVA or Bankrupt then your name , address, date of birth , Ip/trustee etc are available for ANYONE to see on the Insolvency Service website .
Its dead easy to trawl through there and get some names and addresses to send mailshots out.

Hi Ali and welcome to the forum
My advice is to put this letter in the bin asap and forget about it!!!!
You seem happy with your iva and should continue with this as you will be debt free at the end.
It is just a company getting details from the insolvency register and trying there luck. This forum has a petition going to limit access to the insolvency register and I am sure Andy will be along soon and put a link so you can add your name to this.

Thanks Mish & Emma - just checked out the Insolvency website - bit of a shock to see my name jumping out at me! Never mind - few more years and hopefully it will be removed!

It is a bit of a shocker seeing your name on the register, I had a look as was curious as to what details were supplied and felt a bit numb afterwards.
Having said that without my iva I would be in a less brighter place than I am now so have made it a rule never to look at the register again and forget about it until I can look and my name is not on it!!
Hope you have binned that letter already!!!!!

It's horrid seeing your name there isn't it? Mine's there but my husband's hasn't been entered as yet.I guess people will start writing now I'm on it. This seems to be the norm from reading the information here. I had a telephone call just after my IVA was approved. An autoated voice message on answering asking if I wanted help getting out of debt. I put the phone down and nothing since. Such an invasion. My kids could have answered. Cat

Letter has definitely gone!! Still can't believe the company sending it out tho - after all the stress to get an IVA who would want to even think about starting all over again.
