I need to moan.... Dont know if anyone has used a recruitment agency but they make me very angry[:(!]

My type of work Is HGV driving and for some reason probably 99% oj jobs are advertised through employment agencies. I ring them up for a job i have seen advertised like anyone would with a job they had seen and they invite me in to register my details with them. When i mention the job i have seen they say 'things change' meaning the job is not available or probably never was. All the agencies are the same and some of them are a fair drive away for a job that is apparanlty advertised for my area. 9 times out of 10 they will then say we will ring when something comes up. They talk to you like they are better than you.

I had an agency i registered with 6 months ago ring the other day out of the blue and asked what my availabilty was this week and when i said i was available they said they will put a note next to my name...have i heard anything??? NO...

Why do they advertise these jobs if they dont exist? I look on the jobcentre website every hour or so when im at home and saw a job that had just gone on...when i got up to the agency this morning it was the same old story! LIKE THE JOB HAD GONE!!

THESE AGENCIES MAKE MY BLOOD BOIL [:(!]

Sorry for the moan

Steve, I know exactly what you mean......
Hubby used to be self-employed brickie in a squad and used agencies. As you say, they seem to have certain job market's sewn up so you have to use them. They use these 'good job' adverts to get you interested just to get your details. Hubby has been promised 6-12 months work by some of them, when in reality, it's more like 6-12 days work!!!! They definately stretch the truth as far as they can......

Hmm, I'm off to the job agencies in town tomorrow to register, do you think they are the same with all jobs?

They are the same for admin / clerical. One job I was interested in was 'no longer avaialable' after I had taken the day off work and travelled for an interview. Never heard from them again. Waste of time in my opinion and would never touch them again.

Viki, some are ok. A lot of companies use them to recruit so they don't have the hassle if it turns out your not suitable.... (your contract can be cancelled almost immediately without a reason)......

Some are ok but as a whole they are a complete waste of time and i try and avoid them but as i said before the majority of available jobs in my line of work are through these agencies.

All i will say is when they invite you in make it clear you are only going in for that particular job.

I hope you have more look than me Viki

Good luck tryingtogethelp i knew someone whose son worked for an absolute pittance with promises of a full time job at the end of it but that never materialised, i'm one of the fortunate ones and have been in my job for nearly 28yrs so i wish you all the luck in the world and hope that something comes along for you.

Thanks orchid5. I dont have much luck with jobs. Redundancy twice in 12 months is very unlucky. I think i need to re-train but then i guess no job is totally secure these days. I can say now though that i will do my best to stay away from agencies!!!

Good for you Jane. I got my first job after leaving the Army with an Agency and i thought they were great, but when i was made redundant from that they became pretty rubbish, ringing me at 1 am to do a shift somewhere, usually too far away with a low hourly rate.

My stepdaughter and stepson both got their current, and previous jobs through agencies, and they had no problems at all.
