I was claiming family tax credit and child tax credit for a while and they are income based. In fact they were a lifeline when I was flying solo with the kids - especially with childcare, opticians (I have to wear glasses) and dental fees. They are income based, so I would assume that they are classed as income based benefits - have you looked on the inland revenue website?

hmm, good question. It might be worth calling the tax credits helpline and asking them - I usually found them pretty helpful. It's also worth seeing if they have a 'Sofa Project' locally - basically a sort of furniture charity that collect unwanted (but decent) furniture when people move or get new, and then sell it on very very cheaply.

You're luck's in
Check out this link (I'm assuming that Sefton is no different to the rest of the country!) and scroll down to the Tax Credit section where it categorically states "Working Tax Credit is an income-based benefit"

I think Sefton's in Yorkshire, but hey, it can't possibly be any different anywhere else in the country!
I'm so pleased for you

Of course you will - you sound like a lady with her head screwed on straight! lol - oh the stories I could tell of what I did to some of my OH's stuff when we split up. We actually laugh about it now!

hell, we've all made mistakes - at least you're doing your best to sort it all out.
lol - I did the opposite and instructed the toughest divorce lawyer I could find - having put up with far too much cr*p - I was getting my pound of flesh!
But if it's better for you and the kids to walk away and start a new (and I promise) better life, then you go for it!
