Hi
I have come to the end of the first year of my IVA and I have been told by my IP that I must supply my wage slips on a yearly basis for review -which is fine but she has also told me that they have access to view my bank account - is this correct are they able to view my bank transactions?
I sort of had a disagreement with her in regards to how she handled my case and I think maybe she is just saying it - but to be sure can you tell me do they place a restriction on the bank account that allows them to view the transactions - If I have to supply the monthly bank statments, I will but I dont like the idea of them having access to my bank account (thats if its true)
Thanks

Hi tjc and welcome to the forum.
This is the first I have ever seen of anybody being told the IP has actual access to view your bank accounts. Yes some as you say do ask for bank statements but as far as I know they dont have direct access to view transactions.
Wait for Melanie or a technical expert to answer.

I would imagine that Ip's can have access to view your bank transactions to allow transparency throughout your IVA. I am not an expert though.

They can ask to see your bank statements but will not have access to your accounts - unless they are one of the companies linked to Think Banking where I think they might be able to.

Hi Melanie
I did ask the question about think banking and they told me they dont have access to the account the same as with any other.

I would think anyway that you would have to tell the bank that it was ok for someone to look. They wouldn't just be able to view it.

I certainly wouldn't give my permission to anyone to view my account. Your IP will have statements and all transactions are on there so they shouldn't need to see anything else.

hi TJC...welcome to forum..hope the answers above will help you out...it would be perplexing to think IPs had a right to view accounts

I wouldn't be happy about anyone viewing my bank account. I can't see why the IP would need to though if they have your bank statements.

That's right Skip. There won't be anything in your bank account that won't show up on the statement.

Hi im with Thinkbanking, and Freeman Jones, Freeman Jones dont have access to my bank account, however Thinkbanking do have access to my IVA account, to make sure it is being paid, who my relations manager is and to pay over any other payments, they are not authorised to change payments until they have spoke to Freeman Jones.

When I was with Debtmatters, they used to run Credit Searches on me and did get hold of my halifax bank statements without me knowing.

I'm surprised that they could do that without your permision Stu. Data protection will cover it. Perhaps you signed something without realising what it was you had signed?

They are not authorised to change payments stu unless you are aware either. I authorise all my overtime payments with fJ and then they put them through to the accout.

My son is disabled and has an account, I had to open the account for him etc but its in his name and I am ultimately responsible for any fraud that he might commit. However, I am not allowed to look at his account, the data protection act prevents this. He had to think up some stuff so that he can log on and I was not allowed to have that information. So I cant see how anyone else can.

Surely since the introduction of DP laws - nobody - but nobody - has access to your account whether it's with a bank or a building society? You can supply your IP with your bank statements - what more is there?
