Hi all,
Not too worried about this but curious...
Today we got a letter from Eversheds / Max Recovery saying that the Barclaycard part of our debt had been transferred to them. The letter was very pleasant and stated they would still deal with my IP and that this was purely for my reference.
I'm sure since our IVA was approved that they would not be able to do anything but was just wondering if this is standard or if it is anything I should be wary of?
Thanks for any advice [:)]

They have bought the debt from Barclaycard, and are now effectively the creditor. Don't worry as they are a great company for your IP to work with - very supportive and commercial.

we also have debts with Barclaycard and we have been constantly hounded with calls from a company called Mercers.
Is it usual for Barclaycard to sell to diferent companies? and what are Mercers like to deal with?
My husband had a call from them earlier this week threatening to send a collector to the house if we didn't make a payment over the telephone. I must admit the thought of someone turning up at our house frightens us to death, but he told them we were in the process of sorting out an iva and that we would not be making any payment to them until we had spoken to our IP.
The whole thing has left us feeling very unsettled and I must admit my heart skips a beat each time the doorbell rings. I just hope that it won't be too much longer until we get a date for our creditors meeting.

They will try anything to get blood out of a stone.
Doorstep collectors have no real power if they did call, treat them like you would a phone call and tell them to go away or just don't answer the door to them!
They will try anything to get a payment out of you, stick to your guns.

Thanks for that, its just the thought of my children answering the door to a debt collector frightens me to death or the shame of our neighbours finding out about our situation.
Has anyone actually had a doorstep call from Mercers or are the just trying to frighten us into making a payment?

Mercers are debt collection agents rather than debt purchasers. They should drop away once your IVA is in place.

Bettyboop, I had mercers to the house but I had missed 5 months payments. The lady who came was very polite and when I told her I was in the process of an IVA, she apologised, wrote all the details down, asked for a payment (I said no) and then off she popped. I was a nervous wreck as the neighbour was in his garden, but I posted on here and found out it is quite rare to have the debt collectors come out. Apparently, they are supposed to send you notice of the day they are coming. Don't worry, you're IVA will be up and running soon. X

Mercers used to bother me all the while, I just ignored them, and, unlike poor Viki, we never had any collectors round even though they threatened. I believe that they are actually owned by Barclays.
Once your IVA is set up, you will find that they will sell on to Max Recovery/Eversheds and after the initial, very pleasant letter, you won't hear from them again.

I agree ... it's a great feeling to know that you can happily answer the phone and open the letters tht pop through the door.

Hi all just reading through this thread and like some of you have had my debts brought out by Eversheds, got the polite letter and put it away in the file i have for my IVA. Since my IVA i have had nothing come through the door apart from the aforementioned and the peace of mind and ability to live my life without worry of opening letters is worth more than i can say. 12 payments down, 48 to go wahooooo, unless of course i have enough equity in my house to pay off the debt in 3 years time.

Hi,
I've had letters from Evershe too - I just post them off to my IP!!
It is a great feeling when the calls, etc drop off and you don't dread the post arriving each day (it's also lovely to have small amounts of post once the IVA is up and running!! Even the junk mail has decreased!!).
Try not to worry Til, you'll get there soon,
Hugs,
Chardonnay

Yeah, the postman seems a lot happier these days, not having to carry all those credit card statements and creditor letters addressed to me. Lol
