My son left home last October to join the RAF, I informed Tax Credits straight away. I began my IVA in November. I received a review pack last week from T/C so I rang them up, it looks like I owe them some money now, this could be about 700.00.
Will I be able to put this into my IVA? Ihave had a couple of pay rises since I started my IVA so I will be paying more at my annual review.

Do you have any other children living at home for which you are claiming tax credits for? If not then HMRC will pursue this debt, but they ought to be bound by the terms of your IVA so let your IP deal with this for you.

I do not have any other children living at home. I just do not understand how it may end up so high, I will await the paperwork, I suppose at least I will be able to pay extra in since my pay rises.
Thanks for the reply Melanie.

Marsha ... did you fill in and return your review pack? This has happened to me. I notified the Tax Credits people that my daughter was going to leave college two months before she did so. I didn't realise that I had to fill in the review pack as I wasn't making a claim anymore but the crazy Tax Credits systems works out on a year before or something. After numerous phone calls with the Tax Credits people thay agreed that I didn't owe them anything and the last time I heard from them was before Christmas.
Then on Friday I received a really rude telephone call from HMRC telling me I was going to be thrown in prison and hung as i owed them money ... these people are just soooo RUDE!
So make sure that you do actually owe the money Marsha.
You must be really proud of your son [:)]

I too have an IVA, of which a tax credits overpayment was included of just over £500. My IVA was granted in Feb last year, so 15 months now. On saturday i received a letter from tax credits saying they had no choice but to send enforcements to get payment!!
I rang them yesterday, and they told me that their legal team were having any luck with insolvencies so they were dealing with them seperately!!
It took lots of explaining, rather unimpatiently, to tell them they cannot persue this payment separately as it was in my legally binding IVA, and it was illegal to harrass me for payment now!
They knew about my IVA but hadnt applied for payment, or interest in it. They told me to get back in touch with my IP, so i said no, you do it. I explained that i should have no further contact with my creditors and that it should be through my IP.
He said he'd refer it back to his legal team. What a cheek!

Hi, thanks for the replies. I rang and did my review on Saturday, I didn't think I would have to review again. However I was told that I had to.
I did not include tax credits into the IVA due to not thinking I owed them anything, I am panicking now as my pay has gone up, I hope the over payment is not too much.
I will hope for the best and then send it into my IP.

Hi Soulgrowth, yes I am very proud of my son. I am also very worried as he has joined the RAF regiment, so it is the fighting ground force of the RAF. He should graduate in July. Thanks for that.
