I have asked for this before, but it's now buried way down in a previous posting. Please could someone post a link to a chart showing which banks are linked to which other banks. I found it really useful when considering which bank to open a basic account - for instance, I avoided NatWest as they're linked to RBS (one of my main creditors).
Please can an expert post a link, or even list all the banks and who they're linked to.

MINT, in other words RBS was/is one of my main creditors and I didn't realise that they were also linked to NatWest when I applied for their basic STEP bank account! However, I managed to open the NAtWest account very easily and with no problems whatsoever! I was however turned down by the Co-op (not a creditor) which apparently is VERY unusual and my IVA company DFD couldn't believe it!! So, goodness knows how it all works - all I do know is that it is definitely a real worry and source of anxiety until that new basic account is in place and open. [:)]

We have a Nationwide Flex Account with just a cash card. As long as they are not one of your creditors you should be able to get a basic account with them.

The only ones I know are HSBC who are linked to First Direct and Beneficial Trust (HFC or Household Bank as it used to be known.) They probably have more as well.

Nat West is RBS who have Direct Line and Lombard.

Another good pointer with Credit Cards would be to check out what bank you need to make the payment to which will be on the bottom of the payment slip on the statement, as that is obviously the parent company.

I'm not sure if that's true Kallis - I think the name of the bank on the payment slip is the clearing bank, which is not necessarily the parent bank.

Soz, I always thought it was the parent bank. I know that Lombard Direct uses Nat West which is RBS. Gets a bit confusing with all these different companies though, and when the brain cells start dying off in the millions as mine are, I need a helping hand every now and then!
