Hi everyone!
Am now in the process of checking my credit file for mortgage purposes. I have seen one company in my report showing arrears but date was before I entered IVA.
What can I do to remove this in my file? Will very much appreciate your help, as always.

If the debt was pre-IVA then it should have been defaulted with a date on or before that IVA ... and they would have been included in the IVA. If it hasn't been formally defaulted it will remain on file, so you need to get them to record the default with the correct date and it will drop off on the 6th anniversary of that date --- does that make sense ?

I agree with Foggy and this will certainly have a big influence on your chances of success in achieving a competitive mortgage.

Thank you Foggy, but sorry i did not get what you meant.

The company that is in my credit file is not included in my iva, I just happened to see it now that i checked my credit file. Its a telecommunications company , apparently I opened in 2011, showing ai have balance of £15, marked red for (6 months or 6 years in arrears), can I still use the template you made and address this to the company’s data collector? Or should I call the company and pay this balance and ask if they can correct my file?
I really don’t know how to do this, and sorry i did not understand the explanation...

Such a small debt would have been caught by the IVA anyway, so I would try using the template to see if they will default the account and back date it to when the IVA started. Then, when the start of the IVA is more than 6 years ago, the default and all those red marks will disappear.

Plan B, if they will not default it with the correct date, would be to do as you suggest and contact them offering to pay the £15 so it is marked settled -- those red marks will stay for 6 years in that case.

If you aren't able to get this removed it may not be the end of the world in terms of obtaining a mortgage, given the nature and amount, but it would still be better if you can.

Hi Foggy and Shaun, i tried my best to locate the data collector address so I can send the letter to Virgin Media, but I cannot find it on their website or I cannot even talk to anyone as no Customer service call I can ring with regards to this (as automated answer kept asking for landline number or customer number, which i both don’t even have, as the account was in 2011, I don’t even know remember having an account with them)
Even with the plan B that Foggy suggested is hard to do as no proper contact number to inquire.
Anyone knows how to speak to Virgin Media Telecommunications ltd?

Submit a Dispute to the Credit Bureau.
Dispute With the Business That Reported to the Credit Bureau.
Send a Pay for Delete Offer to Your Creditor.
Make a Goodwill Request for Deletion.

Good luck with Virginmedia ! They are known for default errors ... we had one and it took several letters and almost threats to get it put back to our iva start date - in the end experian made an amendment on our records with the evidence supplied for us.
