i was wandering whether it is advisable to miss a payment early on (I had made 3 payments) and have had a massive bill for car repairs £341. My IVA payment is £265 but I do have some savings of £100. My mom has said she would help me out as she doesnt want me missing a payment, but I feel guilty about this, as she has a lot of expenses lately financially with her house and car etc.

Would this be a bad thing me missing a payment, I have email my IP to see whether it would be okay.

The thing that has made me angry is that the repairs were done by the husband of a woman I work with and I kept asking how much things would be and kept being told "not much dont worry"

It turns out I could have gone to Chemix high street garage and it would have cost £90 less. I wont be asking him again needless to say.

Thanks in advance.

Normally you will not default on your IVA if you just miss one payment, but if you get more than 60 days in arrears, then you will be in default, however, missing one payment will use up half the slack that you are allowed.

I always allow my clients to miss one payment upon request, but ask them if they can to increase their payments to bring the IVA back on track within 12 months.

If there is another way of paying this bill, and not defaulting on the arrangment I would suggest that you take up your mother's kind offer and try to keep your IVA payment record up to date.

Thanks for your replies. Had a phonecall back from Payplan and I have arranged to miss august payment but to spread missing payment over remaining 56 months, equating to around £4.50 a month increase so it will still be paid in 60 months.

Thanks again for your help..
