I've just heard that Abbey are taking over Alliance and Leicester.
I bank with Alliance and Leicester and am worried as I have a debt in my IVA with Cahoot who are part of Abbey.

Will this affect my bank account when the take over happens?

Actually, Banco Santander are taking over A&L, although they happen to own Abbey already.

Your bank account will not be affected as the Cahoot debt is already part of your IVA and cannot be set against post IVA credit balances, even were they to arise in the same institution.

Me and hubbie had a joint account with Barclays prior to our IVA, when we changed to Nationwide as one of my creditors was Barclaycard. We still have this account open, but there is only 45p in there.

As my Barclaycard is now in my IVA, would I be able to go back to using this account as I have a cheque book and debit card with this, and just a cash card with the Nationwide account.

I see no problem with that.

Hope they don't take away my visa debit facility.

Will they carry out credit checks on all those with Alliance and Leicester accounts?

They might do, if they are concerned about the strength of their new customer base.
