Hi, I have a combined unsecure debt of £81,000. Have booked an appointment at county court for a bankruptcy petition but was asked by a friend to check IVA out first. Am a professional engineer but finishing job in July to care for 2 children while working part-time as a care assistant in care home. I have no asset. My part-time income will be less than 600 per month. Have spoken to 2 financial companies, which said I can do an IVA, but must include my partner's income details. However, i would like to leave my partner out of my debt situation, which was incurred due to an international custody battle with my ex-husband and a subsequent failed business, set up to repay my legal costs... should I just go bankrupt and start afresh?

Unfortunately, if your partner lives with you their income would have to be taken into account.
It is only for the purposes of ensuring you both pay half towards the general household bills and costs. Any money after that would be theirs to keep.

Given your priorities are to keep your partner out of your financial difficulties, bankruptcy would appear to be the best option for you.
