Hi can someone please advise please, i have been in an IVA for 18months now-no problems to report. However due to circumstances beyond my control, myself and partner need to move house this month as our tenancy agreement has come to an end after 3 years.
My question is , will applying for a new place to live become difficult re:credit checks etc? I have never missed a payment on any previous property i have lived before if that helps.
A bit concerned as i'm about to put down the deposit but don't want to jeopardise things!

As far as I am aware, any letting agent can do a credit check on new tenants. It may be wise to be upfront with the agents from the off set, they should now if it's going to be a problem.

A lot of agency lets are subject to credit checks, but many private landlords do not bother. So you might be better off looking to that sector first. Having said that in my experience so long as you are open and up front about your personal circumstances, a lot of agencies will allow tenacies for people in financial trouble.

Further to my question earlier , thought it may be helpful for others who might be in the same situation at some point, basically the lettings agents have said that things have really tightened regarding IVA's on tenancy agreements, stops the landlord getting insurance apparently , therefore unless you have a partner who earns a pretty decent amount(ie.could easily afford the whole rent) then you must get a Guarantor with a good credit history and fairly good salary etc.

we earn between us £56000 - our lettings agent would only allow us an agreement for six months at a time if we paid six months rent in advance - even with a guarantor we were not allowed to pay monthly!

i know when we looked into selling up and renting most letting agents we went to had small print which said you wouldn't get a tenancy if in an iva. thats why we ended up staying put
