had a trial run of budget shopping today....... hard not to deviate from your list when you are used to just putting things in the trolley......did it tho !!!

well done - over the next few weeks it will become easier...we always used to time our visit to the supermarket for when they disounted the meat counter etc and then filled the freezer up ...we would land up with a mixture of dinners but it did save a few pounds each week !

a good thing to do aswell is mealplan, I know it's boring but we tend to plan meals for the month based around what we're working, who's at home etc and I try to base meals around what we already have in and then write my shopping list from that, but it is hard not to stray, even a year on I always end up with more than is on my list, but definitely less waste since we started planning

I've tried monthly but found I just spent more and still ended up shopping again each week anyway.

I do a main shop at the start of the month and then weekly top up shops.
I did find a good way to budget today though - I went to a different Sainsburys and I don't think it caters for anyone under the age of 70! I came out without most of the things on my list!

Not shoving stuff in your trolly will soon become habit just as dropping stuff in did! couple of months and it'll come second nature to question everything you pic up!

I know it sounds daft but always check the bargains are really bargains. I have on several occasions picked up a 2 for one offer to find that the larger pack is still a better buy.
Takes a little longer to do the shop, and if you arent good at mental arithmatic take a calculator,or use the one on your mobile if you dont want to look like scrooge walking around the shops!!!
I got 2 of the kitchen knives that tesco has you collecting vouchers for last night and they are fab, well balanced and sharp. I will get 2 more next week!!

I'm really savvy with that!!! At the moment a 2 for one on Lurpak spreadable in Asda and a two for one on the smaller jars of decaff coffe in Tesco are cheaper than the larger ones.
