Hi everyone,
Is it just me or does everyone else think that it's not right for travel companies like Thomas Cook, Thomson etc to charge families extra money for holidays during school holidays, typical example, in June a holiday for a family of 4 is £875.00 but in July/Aug the same destination rockets to a hefty £1350.00.
Just because School's have term times, these holiday companies shouldn't use this to there advantage, its not fair to the workers who deserve a break with their loved ones!! rant over...

Hi,
I'm afraid that travel companies can charge what they want at anytime of the year.
Nothing you can do about it.

I totally agree with you, Lee. However, this happens all over the business world. Supply and demand.

Too right - one reason that I have never gone on holiday during peak periods.

We haven't up to now, but with the youngest in school now we are doomed to holiday times. These days you can't take them out for holidays at other times. When our younger ones were at scholl, in the "old Days" we used to go just either side of the holidays ( in the last week of summer term they never used to do anything except play ganes anyway !).

Exactly - we used to do that with our daughter and stepkids. These days I try and avoid school holidays when I can.
Have done two holidays abroad since in the IVA but they have been funded by my daughter and fully inclusive so not cost us a lot!

We go when the kids are at a
school because mine are 3 and 10 months but come next year we will be paying top whack!! No more holidays when the kids are at school, we will just have to grin and bear it

Apart from the cost, going when the kids are at school means you don't spend the whole holiday in queues for everything.

Yeah that's true. By the way you guys, not sure if you remember me from last year but your very helpful advice really sorted out all my debt and enabled me to clear the IVA. So again, thanks for that!!

I've only ever gone on holiday once during school holidays and never again! Obviously there were screaming children everywhere and it completely ruined the holiday for me!

Thankfully I have no school age kids but even last years holiday was ruined by kids being there because of a wedding!!!
I think somewhere way off the beaten track is for me next holiday!!!

We're heading abroad for the first time since 2007 when our IVA started this year..... Been out of the IVA now for over 12 months and we are having two weeks in August in lanzorote...... My sisters kids are coming and we can't wait.
For us in our IVA we managed a few nights camping in a tent ..... It meant a lot to us to be able to go away for a few nights even if it was 'roughing' it under canvass. New had a week in Padstow with friends but other than that our time was spent at home enjoying the free countryside around us.

Have a great time in Lanzarote!
I have to say camping is my worst nightmare - if I have to tow it or pitch it I'm not interested! It has to be a cottage or hotel for me!
