As they are half price in Tesco at the mo I thought I would invest in one of these. I know several members use them regularly and wondered if there were any "Top Tips" to share ... especially "Do's and Don'ts" .......

I use one Foggy but not to its full potential so would appreciate any tips too.
Schwartz do a slow cooker range of a few everyday slow cooker recipes and I've used these and they seem to go down well.

Tip 1: Always brown your meat in a normal pan before putting it in the slow cooker as the slow cooker does not brown meat.
Tip 2: It can taste a little samey if you do all your veg in it so I always do 1 veg seperate
Tip 3: If you want a particular recipe use google for slow cooker recipes OR ask me as I have a couple of slow cooker recipe books :-)

If cooking beef or pork or lamb, the longer you can let it cook for the better.

DO NOT STIR too often, experiment especially with meat cuts you wouldnt normally use(often cheaper too) as it can be soooooo tender its unreal.

Google a recipe for moroccan lamb casserole, its sooooooo tasty.

If it's in a slow cooker though you don't stir it do you? Mine used to be set to the appropriate time, switched on and left.

That's what I thought Jan. We hardly use ours as everything cooked in it tastes the same to me!

Hi

I find the cheaper cuts of meat are best which is good for our budgets! I use shin of beef which comes out nice.

Its lovely to come home from work to the smell of it bubbling away.
