Hmmm hasn't been the best Christmas thus far. Went to Kent to visit Husband's family in new car as old one was an MOT fail. Husbands parents kindly purchased it for us. However...head gasket blew..so yesterday spent 6 hours in a Recovery truck limping back up North. I was looking forward to a nice glass of wine once home...however it wasn't a happy homecoming. Opened the front door to the sound of water pouring out from somewhere. Turned on the light and got an electric shock, complete devastation, ceiling down in the front room, water everywhere, in the Kitchen, Hall, Front Room is like a bomb has gone off, water water everywhere...Christmas tree stands folornly in the corner, no lights of course as it's sodden and everything was live. I type this now from our bedroom which houses me, Husband, son, daughter, two cats and our house bunny who got rather wet yesterday but fortunately shows no ill effects thank goodness. Landlord has been out with a Plumber and there is no longer water pouring out but needless to say...well you get the picture. I think that perhaps somebody up there doesn't like me...[:0

Thanks Jan. I know, it seems like a nightmare. Going to ring the garage this morning where the car came from, hoping that there is some warranty. As for the house, well the smell of damp is terrible and I haven't even opened the living room door this morning. It will be a day of insurance assessment, at least we have contents cover, I'd never scrimp on that as we would not be able to replace things if they were damaged without it. Still..animals are fine, one cat is snuggled up to me and the rabbit is bright and eating. It was a pipe underneath the bath apparently, just glad that we came back yesterday. It obviously started sometime yesterday as a neighbour had been in to feed the animals in the morning and all was normal then. Ho Hum.

Glad you are all ok anyway, that's the main thing. Totally agree that insurance shouldn't be dropped, we've claimed a couple of times since being in the iva.

Hope you can get the car sorted as well.

Thank goodness it had only been flooding for a while or house bunny would have been a soggy bunny.

Hope you can get things sorted asap.

Don't forget - even though you have only just started your IVA you could ask for a payment break to help with the car.

Quick Update - Loss adjustors for both buildings and contents insurers have been out. Buildings loss adjustor said that the damage was worse than many properties she viewed last year which were flooded due to the extremely cold weather! Anyway, drying company coming on Tuesday to remove/condemn furniture and it's likely that parts of the house will be stripped right back and rebuilt. The smell of damp is awful so we are waiting for dehumidifiers to come in. Loss Adjustors said that we can claim for electricity used and also for the escape of water as we are on a meter. We haven't heard from our landlady since it all happened, didn't even come when the loss adjustors viewed the property. As for the car....well the garage swapped it for another, I think they were backed into a corner a little - especially when I broke down on the telephone! I shall inform our IP of all that has been happening although we shall make repayments as usual. Still..it's a New Year.. Happy New Year to you all x

Glad it's getting sorted and well done on the car!!!

I hope they get the house sorted soon.

You'd have thought your landlady would have at least phoned to see how you are coping.

Not a good start to 2012, but at least the car has been changed for hopefully a more reliable one.
