Hi i recently have been diagnosed with angina, does anyone have any experience of having an angiogram, i saw a cardiologist last week he said i should have this procedure done, i may have to have a baloon or a stent inserted, i have to take steroids and antihisamines for a few days before as a precaution to an alergic reaction to the dye. Is this procedure really painless.

My husband has had several of those! The last one he had done was via his wrist and was much easier than the one via the groin. He's not had any problems at all although he's never had a stent or balloon, he's had two bypasses.

He still suffers with angina though!!

My neighbour had the balloon a couple of years ago and he suffered no pain or nasty after affects x

Hubby had the procedure through his wrist, he did complain that the band they put around your wrist afterwards for a few hours was very tight, but it has to be, to stop air getting directly to your heart.
The procedure itself was fine no pain he stayted awake and found it really interesting until he realised hang on this is my heart they are showing me the blockages in [:D]
He had a stent fitted and has had no ptoblems since although he is on 5 tablets a day and you will be on statins for the rest of your life which means no grapefruit, which was hubby's favorite fruit. If you have a stent fitted you will also need a anti-coagulant drug for 12 months to stop rejection etc. Hubby is now fitter and has better circulation than he has had for years.

Thankyou Jan, Lesley, Footiemad, Pandy & Oscar for the advice i feel more reasured now. I was about to say i have to wait for the appointment letter now, but a text has just arrived saying it if i need to chnge the appointment call them, its on Saturday 8th Nov, unusual to get the text before the letter, can't believe how quick its been, 8 days must be a record, been taking statins,lisinipril & asprin for a while now, few weeks ago started the under tongue spray & dilzem after monomax xl made me ill. Also xray showed i have an enlarged heart, cardiologist told me the type 2 diabetas i have masks the pain which is good i dont feel it as much.

Hello, last post should read Tuesday 8th Nov, (was looking at wrong page on calender), its for a pre op, 14th Nov is the day the angiogram is taking place, they said they don't have any waiting list.

The sooner you do it then the sooner you'll feel better.

Many cardiac patients feel better than they have in years after a stent is fitted. Angiograms are all very routine and should be pain free.
