Not on a sales drive but my car brokedown last week (first time it had given up the ghost properly in 7 years). Been a member of the AA for a couple of years and needed their assistance for the first time so gave them a call.

More recently had invested in the AA's Breakdown Repair policy.

Long story short....recovered home within the hour, car fixed at garage for £490.00 (paid directly by AA) and I paid £25 excess without having to worry about my IVA.

Considering car is worth not much more than a £1000 but is priceless in my getting to work I would highly recommend such cover.

PS: I dream of the day I can own a car less than 10 years old....ah well only 3 more years!

How much are you paying a month? Looks ok but as with all policies has a lot of exclusions.

Just over £4 a month for "repair cover" and "roadside/relay £10 a month.

I might have to take a look at that pennyless, I'm with RAC at the minute for £7.33 @ month x

We're with the RAC and we've just had our renewal through - £107 for joint personal membership which I think is really good.

Luckily my friend's partner is a mechanic so I don't have to worry about repairs as he does them for me cheaply.

My son in law does too Skippy but was just wondering if it would be worth it as I travel so often to Manchester and he doesn't often come x

It could be worth it Lesley. I have to say when I did a quote with the AA for breakdown cover it was horrendously expensive so that would put me off.

I've always like the AA but my cover, which is for breakdown and relay, is over £13 a month. Not got cover for repairs though.

My RAC cover is for roadside, recovery, at home and accident care and I think it's quite reasonable this year. Last year the renewal was over £130 but Dave phoned them and said we were leaving and they reduced it to £96. I expected this year's to have gone up a lot more as I called them out 6 months ago.

With mine and the wifes cars being over 10 years old these little "repair covers" can be a godsend. Dont get me wrong I can do most repairs myself and I'm limited to £500 claim for each "repair" from the AA, but at £25 excess payable, its hard to beat the security and warm cuddly feeling the policy affords us.

I've been with the AA for almost forty years now and have had excellent service from them.

As regards repairs, our cars are modern ones so hubby wouldn't touch anything other than the basics. We have a local VW/Audi garage (not a main company) and they are brilliant. The other car is motability so we only have to put fuel in.
