Went into our local Tesco Express and bought an item for the princely sum of 93 pence.

Gave the girl at the till a pound coin and she gave me 15 pence change!

I pointed out that £1 less 93p was 7 pence (or am I missing something??).

She actually pointed to her little computerised till read out and uttered those immortal words, "But the computer says ..." To be fair to her, it DID say on here box of tricks that 15 p was due !!!!

All those years in school and college ( and many since ) I have been mathematically challenged! Obviously 100 - 93 = 15 !!!!!

Probably Kazza --- she wouldn't take back the overpayment as that would make her till wrong, which it would be anyway !!!

I always love their faces when you try to give them the odd pennies to save their change. You can see the panis even though the till will work it out!!
Not like the good old days when it would add up but you worked out the change. My saturday job in Boots - loved it!!

When I had a Saturday job they were good old fashioned tills with pounds, shillings and pence!!

I worked as a shelf stacker in Tesco, in a shop called Greys (now Debenhams), BHS over Christmas and then at a filling station where the 'till' was an old adding machine and the money kept in a drawer underneath the counter!!

I worked in Woolworths on Saturdays on the old "cajing" tills. We had to make up the slack if the till was out at the end of shift but never got any extra if the till was over.

I worked in Woolworths too on Saturdays, started on the lampshades and was promoted to sweets!!

My saturday job was in a clothes shop, no till --- all receipts hand written on carbon pads and added up manually. Then I graduated to full time manual work in a local bakery with a 5 am start for the holidays... which was a shock to my teenage system, I can tell you. Money was good though (and free cakes) ... I blew my first wage packet on records ( vinyl 45's and 33's ...NOT 78's !!!)

I didn't work until I left school. My 4 have all worked as soon as they were old enough.

Customer care is somewhat lacking today when I phoned my computer repair place as I had a repair ten days ago and it cost £20, today it's proven to be not fixed as same problem, I speak on the phone to the 'lad' who answered, he tells me to bring it in, I say I'm without a car today so can't today and it's teaming with rain etc., his reply 'well if you want it looking at you'll bring it in'. I asked him to get the technician to ring me which and he has and it's agreed I'll take it in next week unless my daughter calls today as she'll come in her car....Customer care training may need to be requested at next appraisal!

My first Saturday job was in a butchers. It was great and loved it. Always got a few pounds extra as tips from the old ladies! I use to dread Christmas though with the hundreds of turkeys! I can’t eat a turkey nowadays with shuddering!

My eldest daughter's first job was in a butchers, followed by Woolworths and she's a veggie! bless her!

I remember 78's foggy - my parents had them!

It was 45's and 33's for me as well! I've queued to buy records before now!!
