Well I'm sitting here watching TV thinking I'm sitting in Beirut, not Surrey! It's been going on for the past hour and if I knew where they were coming from I would quite happily go and tell the idiot where they can stick their fireworks.

It's only the 16th of October but I supposed we're going to have to put up with it for the next month or so. At least Harry is indoors asleep on the back of the sofa.

People will probably think I'm a killjoy, but fireworks should only used at professional displays and not on sale to the general public.

Never mind the pets and wildlife as long as you have a good time eh?

I actually hate fireworks and plan to start leaving the horses in overnight very soon.
One of my cats is a raeal worry because for a cuddle, he's anyone's so will have to watch him.

I do as well. I like the pretty colours but hate the loud bangs.

I don't blame you for getting the horses in and I hope your cat is ok. Luckily Harry doesn't seem that bothered, but I don't know what he'd be like if he was outside. I'm going to make sure I lock the cat door earlier than usual from now on.

No doubt we'll here the same stories this year about people torturing animals with fireworks...

Absolutely with u on this.Mostly we have excellent displays but fireworks seem to be used well into new year now..Never seen the attraction myself

We've had some here tonight as well - the dogs both hate them, they become quivering wrecks.

I'm fortunate that our immedate neighbours, who both have kids, never have fireworks in the garden. I dread to think what would happen with the dogs if they did.

I hate them, and think they should be banned other than in organised displays. They are so loud these days as well.

I wish we wre like Ireland where private fireworks are banned.

I didn't realise that private fireworks are banned in Ireland. I think that's an excellent idea and I wish our government would follow.

It's only organised displays which are allowed.

A collague of mine has relatives who live over there and she tries to go away over Bonfire night as her dog is a complete wreck as well.

We do try not to go out at all at night this time of year - they're bad enough when we're at home, I dread to think what they would be like if we went out.

My little boy was almost hit by a stray firework last year. Had to be the scariest moment ever.

I thought about writing to my MP, but he's standing down at the next election as he's being investigated (he was on the news yesterday) so I don't think he'd be interested!

I can't stand any unwanted noise in my house as you've probably gathered, at this rate I'm going to be on grumpy old women soon, noise is the bane of my life and I too hate fireworks and I do believe they have a place in organised professional displays but nowhere else. The fireworks I would think will last into the New Year now.

Jan your doggies bless em, mine are fine with any noise or situation (well not found one yet they're nervous of). Have you tried DAP or some doggy equivalent of Kalms? I've heard good reports about them but never used either method myself.

Lesley, that DAP is the biggest rip off going! It's over £20 and had no effect at all.

Our previous dog was prescribed valium and she was that out of it I wouldn't put her through it again and certainly give it to Lloyd or Suzie. We turn the TV up load and hope it drowns out the noise!

There was a second petition to ban fireworks on the government website but I chose this one as it was open for longer so hopefully will get more signatures.

Unfortunately you're right Lesley, this is going to carry on into the New Year and I dread to think how many animals will be injured or run away because of it. It must be even worse for the wildlife as they don't have anywhere else to go.
