yesterday....we decided to try out Lidl for our weekly shopping. for first time...there we were enjoying pottering around looking at stuff and i picked up a bottle of water to put in my trolley....
a woman standing next to me...said..."you would be cheaper with tap water"...
being a friendly chatty type ...i replied with a smile..."i know...i usually do drink tap water but needed a drink now.."
she then...to my complete and utter surprise prodded my tummy and said.."i can give you some advice about losing this you know..."..
(yes i do have a bit of weight to lose...try doing that when your are on a budget and stressed out about money...IVAs...annual reviews ...)
she then spent 2-3 minutes telling me what to buy .....what not to but ...what to take out of my trolley as it wouldnt be good etc etc.....
i was dumbstruck....gob smacked...speechless....(and that is not the usual me.)...after several mins...i leaned over my trolley and said to her
"do you usually accost people you dont know in supermarkets and berate them about their weight.!!...then i smiled and walked off....
she then...followed me around the place....apologising saying how bad she feels now....and asking me if she had OFFENDED me...DUH.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!this lasted the entire time we were in store..till eventually my OH glared at her and she went off to pay for her own shopping....
I COULLDNT BELIEVE THE WOMAN.....strangely enough my feelings werent hurt.....but boy .!!!!!...was i offended
anyway...rant over....the good news is....we came in under budget....but will i ever go back to lidl again????..maybe she is there all the time and stalks people..LOL

What a nerve!!!!!!!!! I think I would have been tempted to pour the water over her!
It's a good job she didn't see me - I am waaaaaaaay overweight! She'd have had a field day!
Damn cheek though! I think you did well.

Ah bless ya, how awful. My daughter was in Aldi last week and only bought a pack of lollies. The lady in front kindly said you can come in front of me if you want. So she did. The lady commented isn't it hot? daughter replied yes. The lady then said, must be hell for you in your condition.............she's not pregnant! she had a baby in Jan 08 and lost another in June 08....I said what did you say and she said I was so embarrassed I just said yes it is and paid for my stuff and went. Some people are very thoughtless to others, this has upset her and she's already on anti-depressants for post natal depression etc., grrr

Blooming check, I too am over weight and I am always surprised the way people think they can speak to you giving unwanted advice because you are over weight. There is obviously in some people's minds the equation Overweight=stupid. I also find if I go into a restaurant or cafe that other people see what I am eating[:(!]
How you kept your temper I don't know.

I feel self concious enough about my weight without anyone saying anything about it!!!!!! I already think that people are looking at me when I am out.
Too right Jan - we may be cuddly, but we're not thick!!!!!!

As an 'apple' myself I often get asked when I am due.....I take it as a compliment as I must still look young enough to be pregnant and that the only place I must carry weight is around my middle.....[:D]
Not so good for my health though as it's the worst place to store fat supplies!!![:(]

Unfortunately, mine is all over, but I do have a rather large gut! Everytime I see one of these news items about overweight people and see the people they film, it could almost be me! My hubby reckons I'm a weeble!

i am all for friendliness and being scottish..i have the kind of personaility that does just get into conversation with folk...i smile at people and say good morning etc esp if out with dog...and usually i can be seen making faces at babies in trolleys etc etc....and i often get into a chat with the elderly...i always think...i may be the only person to say anything to them all day.....BUT....i would never make a comment about someones "perceived" flaws....
lets face it...we wouldnt ever walk up to someone with a hair lip...or one leg...and make a comment would we.??? perhaps this woman would...who knows
i have also been asked in years gone by...."when is baby due?"...but i guess now i look far too old and i just get the fat comments...LOL

Gosh...how rude! I never understand why people feel they are free to pass comment to random strangers.
I get fed up with people always coming up and commenting on my two children. If I had a quid for every "look at those curls" comments towards my children I would be on The Rich List and not an IVA forum[:D]
I also hate it when people come up and touch my children..like ruffling their hair or chucking them under the chin. They are people not pets [:(!]

Tired of Life, that's absolutely awful!! I think I would've just stood open mouthed in shock!!
What I hate is when I go to the doctors to get my pill prescription renewed the nurse always weighs you and gives you a lecture about needing to lose weight, which is fair enough, but then they get out their bmi charts and try to tell me that I should weigh 7 1/2 stone!! I'm 30 with 3 kids and that's just ridiculous!! I hate the fact that we are all made to think we should be as thin as possible. I know I could do with losing weight, but I don't want to weigh what I did when I was 15!! I'm quite happy with how I am thanks!
