Well I'm going to have another great weekend, I have just gone a cropper down the stairs - every single stair! [:(] [xx(]

I have hurt my back and toes on my left foot. I have been offered a trip to the hospital but have declined as how embarrassing is it, people are there seriously injured and you're there with sore toes.........[B)]

Ohh Marie I know what the broken toe feels like I just broke mine last week. The hospital will just strap it to another toe. Just make sure that if you do it yourself you put something between the toes. I didn't a few years back and my toe now bends in a funny way. I strapped it to the big toe and that has a curve[:0]

I hope you start to feel better soon and try and rest.

A&E departments are horrendous on a weekend so if the pain is manageable with painkillers then I wouldnt bother. Can you put your weight on your foot and wiggle your toes?? If you can then just rest up for a few days. As for your back you have to be more careful. You will know yourself how much pain you are in. Does it hurt when you clench your cheeks??(not the ones on your face mind!!!)

Thanks everyone........

I have had to laugh though just been sat on the sofa clenching my butt! [:D][:I]

My back isn't too bad now to be honest. My toes - well what can I say, they are blinking killing me. I can't put weight on the ball of my foot as it is too painful. I have taken some Andain Ultra and it still hurts. I will sit it out for a while longer. [:I]

Little T has just shouted down the stairs that he thinks I may have damaged the bannister [:0] We have only just finished fixin, painting and generally sorting it out. [:(] I have rang good old dad and told him my bannister is going to haunt him forever and a day as I've just broke it - he took it well although I have been half nagged to death about A&E. [}:)]

Daughter thought she had broken a couple of her toes a few weeks ago. We took her to A&E and they xrayed her and said, no, just a bad sprain. Didn't do anything, they just told her to take painkillers. It came out in a cracking bruise! They did say that if she had broken them they would have fitted her out with a plastic platform thingy for her foot.

Might be worth a visit to A&E?

Hiya

As many of you know I am a fully qualified podiatrist. If you have broken anything it needs to be kept still. Its not as much that it will heal better but everytime you move the broken bones it will hurt like mad. So therefore you will begin to walk funny and its this that causes more problems later on. As it stretches and fires muscles that then shorten and fire when they shouldnt, so we always advise strapping to minimise movement in the early stages. Then when notrmal movemnet isnt painful walk as normally as possible. My advise, is to put the whole foot into tepid water No more than five mins, this helps to reduce swelling and is very soothing, then rub the foot dry with a tumbled towel or wrap in a warm tumbled towel if too painful to rub. This helps to red the area of waste products and brings new healing blood. Dont let the foot get cold for too long, we heal better at 37 degrees. If you have some lolly sticks strap the lower foot up with the lolly sticks between the toes..rest as much as possible with your foot elevated. If youre worried you have broken something go to A and E. It might not be too bad during the day....Damage to the first toe joint affects the gait cycle, if your big toe is involved, go to A and E,

Soryy about your trip down the stairs I wish you a speedy recovery.

Sorry to hear you've hurt yourself Marie.

If it's really painful you should get it checked out - Dave fell over a couple of years ago and hurt his ankle. Being a bloke he wouldn't go to hospital despite the fact he couldn't walk on it. It took ages to heal and he still gets a twinge in it even now.

Take care, and follow Lily's ery good advice x
