Why is decorating so boring?

We have been decorating our hall, stairs and landing now frof about 12 months - dragging.

We are sick of it, we are finally on the home straight and fortunately we have all the paint etc thanks to my dad who is a joiner and gets trade prices.

We spent all day yesterday undercoating the banister rail and glossing the door frames (all 9 of them). Spindles are a mare!

We woke up this morning to what only be discribed as the mother of all hangovers - fortunately our son was at his aunts. Our heads were splitting and our chests were killing. I think we were over come by fumes as neither of us had been drinking - if only lol!

Any tips to get rid of the gloss smell as we have been out tonight to a bbq in the rain along with thunder and lightening (sat under a cheap gazebo), come back and it still stinks. It's awful.

We haven't finished with the glossing as we have to do about 30 spindels three hand rails and all the sides - whoooppido we just can't wait.[:(]

i know what you mean you just get to the point where you just want it all done - but just think how lovely it will be when it is all finished!

hubbys started on our bathroom today, ripping the tiles off, next the bath is being ripped out as we having a walk in shower -think we will be upside down for months too as we are doing it bit by bit as we get money together - before would have just put everything on the credit card - but you know i think doing it like this bit by bit with money we have earned will appreciate it more! can honestly say i never want to own a credit card again! (good job i suppose cos no one would give us one anyway lol)

hope you get your decorationg finished soon - you will be real posh!

Hey Marie, cut some onions in half and dot them around, they absorb the smell. Have fun. Viki X

Or lemons will work, and obviously open windows if poss to circulate the air.

There's nothing worse than paint aroma....it gives me headaches and a sore chest too.
The best thing is to well ventalate, hopefully the weather will stay fine and you can open all the windows today.

I known it will look good but it's getting it to that point. I keep sitting down and typing on the laptop it's really addictive this site and I blame all of you for being sooooo NICE!

Barb I hope your bathroom goes okay we had live wires behind our 60's brown flowered tiles - nice eh. We also had a browny orange bath! I'm in my late 20's and didn't know they ever produced such a colour. I grew up with sick green and maroon along with the odd blue, pink or yellow, but browny orange was new on me!

I know what you mean re the credit card too!

I'm not sure about being posh, I will settle for clean looking and finished! This s the house that Jack built - unfortunately the guy who lived here thought he was a one man trade god! He had hid grubby hands into everything!

You think you had problems Marie, our last house was owned by a builder. He had done his own rewiring and had put 3amp wire onto 13 amp wire. He had also made it look as though he had totally rewired, but he had just put new wire so far, then screwed that onto the old wire!

Hubbie went to put some new wall lights up, and fortunately checked, after he had isolated the lighting circuit as to whether they were still live or not - they were! They were just spurred off the back of a 13 amp socket!

He had a long soak in a very full bath (avocado!!!!) one day and water was cascading through the ceiling into the kitchen -no waste pipe fitted.

Oh, and when we moved in, it took caustic soda, bleach and a wire brush to get the toilet clean!

Sorry Kallis I know I shouldn't moan.....I have to say I have taken some comfort from the fact that I am definately not alone! We have one such live wire left that stays live no matter what we do. We have just pt a cover on it for now and will deal with it again. Why, why dopeople touch such dangerous things when they clearly don't know what they are doing?

I hope your hubby remembers to check, check, check oh and check again before he touches anything. That's what we do now!

I've still not started...........

We learned our lesson with that one. The house we live in now was new when we bought it, so the problems have not been that great. We do need to get the paint brush out now though, it's looking a little tired!

I remember when I forst loined this forum someone was mid way through doing thier bathroom.I thought that was amazing as I couldn't envisage having the money.We had a new bathroom wndow fitted last week.It's been rotted for years..someone did a foriegner for us!Amazed a new window and some B&Q paint as well.And, I'm just six month in.I am finding it much easier to budget in an IVA.Isn't that amazing? No decorating tips though...no motivation tips either unfortuantely[:D]
