Hiya, everyone. I was just having a poke around the web and come across this site. It gives alternative phone numbers to company's 0870 numbers that they use, 10p a minute and you know how long they keep you on hold, [:(!]
You can get free 0800 or local rate numbers so got to be worth using and saving cash, [:D]

I wonder if anyone saw the Martin Lewis programme this week. I was only half watching it as trying to do 100 other things at the same time[:o)]but they had a FREE number for directory enquiries. I thought I would remember it but have forgotton....

This is apparently sponsored by advertising approx 20 seconds, never tried it, but you do get to speak to a real person too (so they say).

This one aslo - I think free directory enquiries is useful - even if you do have to listen to an advert!!

Pros: A real person answers, no registration needed. Cons: Accuracy issues, only one enquiry allowed.

If it knows the number, this is a quick service, with the ad only lasting 20 seconds. Better still the advert is only played after it's confirmed it knows the number; so if not you can ring off. It's also an easy number to remember.

The business model behind this is interesting. To make it viable, the advert you're played will tend to relate to what number you're asking for and also allows you to connect through, for free, to the advertiser. e.g., if you ask for the National Rail Enquiries number, the advert is for Eurostar.

My mobile account gives me unlimited free calls to standard landline numbers - BUT the majority of creditors have 0870, 0845 / 0800 numbers which are charged at premium rates.

I found the saynoto0870 web page about 4 months ago and am saving hundreds per month!

I used the "say no to 0870" tonight to ring D/line insurance, i was on hold for well over 5 mins, if i had not used this site the call would have cost me a fortune as i have free evening and weekend calls.

I am afraid your info above is incorrect

I have a 0845 number this is a normal BT phone but with my own number rather than a STD code. When I ring somebody the message will state International Number and not disclose my number. Also this number cannot be used by salesmen, etc.

The unfortunate thing is if 0845 numbers are dialled from a mobile they are not included in your free calls allowance and you're billed for them extra on top of your contract. If there is a STD number avalailabe that would be free as it would come free in the allowance.

I don't understand either - are you saying your home phone number has an 0845 dialling code?

We pay £5 a month for Sky Talk and that covers all calls at any time unless they are to an 0845 etc number so saynoto0870 is great for us!

It just goes to show how much money companies make off 0870 calls, as Sky actually go on the saynoto0870.co.uk website to see what landline numbers are being advertised for them and then block them off!!!

We've got through to Sky using one of the numbers from the website, although I couldn't get through to Virgin the same way.

There was talk of Sky going 0800, but as of yet, I wouldn't go holding your breath! I wouldn't mind paying 0870 if you get competant customer service [}:)]
