Can I choose how I communicate with my creditors?. I am lookinga the possibility of an IVA, and am making payments, usually late, but am still making them. My preferred communication method is email and letter and not phone calls. I have been getting about 5 silent calls a day where my details are in the dialler but no one is there, this is getting very stressful and worrying for my 3 children who sometimes get to the phone before me and can't understand why no one is there.

I do not think that you can insist that creditors do not to phone you.However you could ask them to communicate via email only.If it is becoming too stressful you could ask your phone provider about changing your number due to harrasment
One of the plus sides of an IVA is that all letters and calls will stop once your IVA is agreed

I never used to receive "silent" calls but used to hate the endless phone calls from Creditors.
One day I just decided to take the bull by the horns and answered every call. It is amazing how quickly you get used to them - they nearly all follow the same format and you can only give the same answer time after time!!!
Good Luck if you decide to go down the IVA route. I found that all letters / phone calls stopped about one month after my Creditors meeting. I know that probably seems miles off at the moment but the sooner you get started (if it is the right solution for you) then the sooner you will have some peace of mind.

Under data protection, you can ask them to remove work numbers from their lists and they should do so upon request. Nothing worse than getting calls at work. They will of course still contact you on home or mobile, but as others have said once an IVA is approved then creditor hassle should stop very quickly.

I changed my home telephone number, so i didn't have any calls from my creditors. Everything was y post which i found easier to manage. I just forwarded everything through to my IVA company.

Eventually, I got to the same position as debbi. I asked MBNA (who are the worst!) to refrain from contacting me at work, which to their credit they did. They then tried every trick on my mobile (texts, unknown numbers, known numbers, mobile numbers, etc) to try and get me to answer (which I didn't!) and then e-mail and post (which I also didn't answer).
I just forwarded absolutely everything to my IP. I hate to think how thick my file is there!! [:p]
