Hi Leiseil and welcome to the forum. Have you tried the Co-op cashminder account? I'm bankrupt and I opened an account with them without any problems.

There is also Think Banking who will accept anyone, but they change a one of admin fee of £25 and then a monthly fee of £12.50 (or £17.50 for a joint account). You are guaranteed an account though, and although I wasn't happy with them a lot of people on the forum are.

Alliance and Licester and the Co-op are the only Banks will allow non -discharged BRs.

Co-op would be a first choice as you get a debit card. Do it on the phone. With A & L you need to go to the branch and pick up an application pack.

The number is 08457 212 212, press the hash key and ask them to help you open a Cashminder account. As ever, be aware that all banks will automatically try and sell you something, in this case a "better" account.

I would also suggest Natwest Step Account and Nationwide Flix Account - both of which are designed for bankrupts so credit history is not normally a problem.

You have to make sure you specifically ask for those accouns and you dont get a salesman trying to upsell you to a flash credit facility account.

I would suggest you apply online then you dont need to tackle the sales people [:)]

The only people who will give you an account you dont pay for is the co-op cashminder, forget all others, they wont touch you. Trust me ive been there!xx

Nationwide no longer offer bank accounts to undischarged bankrupts. I was one of the lucky ones and got mine before they changed their policy. It's a shame they did as it's a good account.

I went into the COOP to open thier basic cashminder account.I'm still with my origional bank and recently opened a saving account with them with no problems (RBS) I do not have an OD with them (clearly) but do have a cheque book. I would preferably stay with RBS and just carry on. However, I do anticipate possible problems and becuse I read the posts here, have decided to open the cashminder 'just in case'.I was very nervous. I've not said outloud that I have an IVA to a stranger yet!!! Anyway, although she was lovely. She had no idea what an IVA was and what it meant.I tried to explain in quiet tones...could not find one sentence to sum it up.The machines were down ...so I still don't know if I got one or not and the whole thing was very stressful for me.I think I'm destined to spend six years pre occupied with money, what I can do, what I can't do, who I tell and who I don't need to tell. If anyone tells me an IVA is an easy way out...argghhh Cat

In addition to the good advice have a look at Halifax easy cash account, Bread, and for a Mastercard do look at Cash Plus!

Good Luck

Hubby set up his account with Halifax, he told them he was starting an IVA and they were fine for the whole 3 years he was in the IVA.
