Hello.Poor dog, hope he's soon better. I recently had money paid into my account for an insurance claim for a sofa.My IP allowed it but I wrote and explained it's appearance just to be on the safe side.Cat

What a shame, I hope your dog is better soon and problem not to serious.

I am like a worried mother when my dog is ill, sounds silly but he is my little boy - he cut his eye running through fields the other week and I was frantic wanting to rush him to vets, it really was not that serious and when cleaned up was fine[:I]

Vets fees can really add up, so its always a good idea to have insurance.

Don't know if your vet will do this as some don't, but I don't pay mine - she claims direct from Pet Plan, so I don't pay at the time. Its worth asking if yours will do the same...

My vet's been lovely with me. He know's about our financial situation, and claims from Pet Plan direct. Problems now that Rocky's excess is £90 + 25% of any bill and Pepsi's is £90. Gotta take Pixie in this weekend to get a lump checked out and his excess is £90 + 25%. Don't get me wrong. Insurance is a very good thing to have. My boys would have cost me thousands by now if I didn't have it. But the excess really start to rack up the older they get. All of my boys are over 10 now [:(] So anyway, my vet claims direct, then gives me a call to let me know how much we still owe him. And if it's too much, he then lets us pay in instalments. So he is lovely. Mind you, with one cat with asthma, kidney failure and pancreatitis, another with a heart murmer and a third with an unexplained lump and arthritis, I personally think we are keeping him in business [:p][:p][:D]

Hope you're pooch is well again soon. Keep us up to date with how he's getting on.

Our dog is over nine so is classed as a senior now (makes me smile as he bounces around like a puppy still) and his insurance has obviously gone up. Also if we make a claim we have to pay the excess plus 35% of the bill. We pay £17.90 per month. Has anyone managed to obtain cheaper insurance than this for their older dog?

There probably is cheaper insurance out there, but you'd lose cover for anything you've claimed for in the past.

One of the things we're dreading about moving to Oz is that Petplan won't cover them outside of the UK and we'll never be able to insure them again. Doh!

While we're on the subject of pet insurance, please can you good people let me know some good insurance companies to use. Dave has agreed that I can have a puddy cat after Easter (a belated birthday pressie!) and I would like to know what companies people recommend.

Marks and spencers cood prices, life long cover pay out,

But wont cover you for any existing illnesses like all insurance.

I used to have pet plan so expensive, but these are good and pay out.

My boy has Petplan cover and always has had since a pup, not the cheapest but he has had such a complecated history I am scared to change him now as new company would not cover any excisting conditions of which he has had loads[:(]
All healthy now but has history of eye operations and all sorts that you never know if they will flare up again

Thats it emma best to stay with existing ones if had claim in past.

With me now i pay less than half the price i paid with pet plan for more cover,

One thing i do know is you need insurances with pets,

I lost my last dog over a year ago never claimed in the 7 yrs of having him but when he was diagnosed with cancer the vet bill for 3 days was over £1400 and they still couldnt save him.

My claims for my dog are way over the premiums I pay each year for the cover.

He had two surgeries as a youngster for ingrowing eyelids (the first did not work). These procedures alone were over £4k[:0]
He also went through a period of having skin problems, and petplan pay for all his hompathic remedies which have been very succesful and it has now cleared up although he still goes twice a year to see the homeapath - theonly vet he likes. He loves going to this place[:)] as does not look or smell like a conventional vets wheere he is always shaking and tail between his legs[:(]
