Hello! I am in the process of getting an IVA with Creditfix LTD. They originally told me that my monthly repayment would be £180 per month but after a visit from them and 3 weeks of no contact they are telling me that it would go up to £300 although they did not say this at all either on contact or visit. I have cancelled all direct debits and changing my bank account so have got creditors calling. Can they do this and shouldn't they have told me this before I followed their advise to stop my payments. Many Thanks

Yes, IVA companies ought to investigate your circumstances and tell you what you'll be liable for before signing you up.

I wonder what has made them change their mind about the level of payments ? If it was due to something that you had already told them about, then it is very poor service, but sometimes it transpires that people's initial budgets are wrong and they can actually afford more than they originally claimed, I'm not saying anything about what heppened in your case, but it happens on quite a lot of my cases that when the budget is done what people can afford is different from what they originally said, I do try to agree with them the level of payments though before they stop making creditor payments.

I thought IVA's weren't usually accepted for less than £200pm, so not sure why they advised £180pm???

My IVA went up to £270 from £210, but that was as a result of modifications, which is fairly common.

£180 is an incredibly low figures for an IVA payment, but do not accept anything that you do not feel you will be able to pay.

I just feel that they gave me this low figure so I would go with their company and now they are telling me what they should have told me at the beginning. As I have not heard from them for 3 weeks, I thought everything was fine but I am now being told that the repayment will be nearly double. I originally anticipated to pay around £200 to 250 per month with a slight leeway but if they go in at £300 and it is refused then I do not have any leeway at all(quite the far end of my budget). I also find it hard to get a straight answer out of the company and I am still not sure if they have started the procedure. I feel like I am backed up against a wall with more and more creditors calling me with no point of contact with the IVA company(cannot give them either a reference or name for them to contact).

If you feel that you are getting poor service from this company now, then are your sure that these are the people you want to entrust your financial affairs into for the next five years. I suggest you get a couple of other opinions with regard to your options.

Hi there

I think it is so important to deal with an IP and company that you have total confidence and trust in as you will be dealing with them for 5 years.

Have you paid any money upfront to them?

I would have a look at reviews on www.iva.com and have a look at feedback on companies and then have a think if you are happy for them to represent you.

Also the payment needs to be accurate and in line with your income and expenditure as an unrealistic iva is doomed to fail.

i was paying 108 pounds for first 9 months than 210 pounds with debtfdirect

That's excactly what they do. Your first contact with them would have been with their call centre in Glasgow (BackToBlack). They do whatever it takes to get you hooked into thinking an IVA is a good idea, and then they will send somebody round to get you signed up. Once it reaches their IP department it's a different story and that's when you found out that the lovely sounding £180 per month needs to be much higher. My old gran would call it a sprat to catch a mackerel [:D]
